Right now, sleeping on the couch with his new Dad. Eating! Going for walks. Snuggling.

Not having a home. Not having his OWN food bowl.

Favorite Toy:
Oooh- I know what those are now! I like the chew toys my Dad got me, the toys I swiped from Chester and all the nylabones!

Favorite Food:
What ya got? I'll take LOTS!

Favorite Walk:
As long as it's with his Dad, it's his favorite walk.

Best Tricks:
Having a big head and charming his Dad. Going into his crate to eat.

Arrival Story:
Duke arrived a couple hours ago from the local shelter. My husband will be his primary pet parent. He's asleep now with John on the couch...

Duke was born in a trailer and taken in by a family with 3 other dogs. They fed them all from the SAME bowl at the SAME time. No wonder Duke is skinny and worried about getting enough food! He now lives with us, also with 3 other dogs, but he has his OWN food bowl. Meal times need to be closely supervised and in different locations, but we expect that Duke will gradually get more confident about having a steady food supply. He is an incredibly sweet, very loving dog who has already won our hearts. I've always believed that dogs who are adopted from difficult circumstances make the most loving companions; Duke could be their poster-child!

Boy lots have happened in the past year. We had to move from the farm. The Bank lied to Daddy. They first said we could "short sell", whatever that means, then they changed their minds and took the farm from him. We moved to another piece of land that had a Yurt on it and we have been living there since October. Yes pup pals, the alpacas came with us too. One bonus to this was that Josh the Great Pyr who was always in the pasture with the alpacas now goes on walks with us. He's BIG! He likes to try to keep up with me as we sniff new smells. He's not much into playing but he doesn't try to pick a fight either so I like him. I also take myself on walks while Daddy takes care of the animals. He gets upset at me for doing this but Hey, it's the Beagle in me that likes to wander. I always come back!
Lately we have been spending time at another place that has CATS! Some like to run away from me, some stand their ground and SOME even hiss and swat at my nose. How dare they. There is also a big, goofy black Lab Buddy that LOVES to romp. We stay in a big fenced yard and play. Then there's Arthur, a toy Poodle that is trying to act like me. When we go for walks he tries to walk next to me, strutting his stuff and sticking his chest out. He even woofs at the same dogs I woof at. It is definitely an ego boost and when my already big head gets bigger, Dad reminds me that he aw me run tail tucked away from a Cocker Spaniel. Why do you have to remind me of that Dad? Can't a puppy have delusions of Grandeur? Oh well.
There is also a 14 year old boy that likes to wrestle! We go at it all the time. Dad gets nervous that I amy get carried away, but I'm not going to hrut the boy. I use my play mouth when I chew on him and tug at his clothes. It's so much fun.
Next Friday marks 2 years with Dad and Mac. Seems like a long time ago I was in that shelter after being abandoned twice. I have no thought Dad will do that to me. He hugs me and Mac daily and tells us how much he loves us and how lucky he is to have us in his life. I have heard him say a couple of times "As long as I am clean and my dogs love me, everything will be OK." Don't worry Dad, We will always love you more than you could ever know.

Daddy brought home a new toy, I mean Playmate! Dupree, a 2 year old Boxer! We have already played tag around the couch. I did get a little snippy when Dupree got into the bed with us. Dad scolded me and says there is enough of him to go around. I guess. As long as he stays on HIS side of the bed...

So sad...

Daddy just told me and Mac that the little boy who came last week's dog got hit by a car today and crossed over the Bridge. He spent a lot of time on the floor with us hugging us and saying how much he loves us and how glad he is for the fence we have to play inside. I must admit I sometimes want to get outside the fence, but I don't want to get hit by a car or eaten by a Mountain Lion so I think I save outside the fence for walks with Dad. If that boy comes back I'll make sure I give him a few extra nuzzles and play with him extra special. Hopefully Bukka met him on the other side. Dogster pals, please be safe!
