Arrival Story:
My second dog, first rescue and a foster failure from the start! I went to pick up my foster dog a "terrier mix", picturing a Benji type.....The woman brought in this lightning on a string - a fit looking Pit mix named Lady. She was a 2 1/2 year old who had been returned twice for being a perpetual run-away. She had been abused for running when she came back - so returning never seemed like a good idea. The first time I called her "come", she hid under a table. I used another recall word for a long time. After a few weeks and some ups and downs I knew we needed each other. I made promises to this girl I had to keep. She was a wonderful part of my life for over 10 years. When her second bout with cancer was inoperable, we made her comfortable until it caused her too much pain. I held her in my arms while the Vet gave her medication so she could slip quietly away.

Bio:
Woofie continued to be a run away and was always welcomed home with open arms and a grateful hug. She did learn to come when called and invisible fencing a large yard when she was 6 helped keep her territory down to a safe space. She was a wonderful mentor to a Corgi pup til he found the right home and our sweet Lab Candy.
