I just want to say thank you to everyone involved in the adopt '10 contest - judges and participants!

Thank you for choosing Ponch as this year's Rainbow Angel winner - it really means a lot to us.

Thank you everyone for the prizes and donations as well, our rescue of choice which helps pull pit bulls out of shelters and animal controls all over the province will greatly appreciate the donations! The combined donations will help vaccinate, microchip and feed a precious bully in need! You guys are pawsome! :)

It's a wonderful feeling to know that our special guy can continue to give long after he's gone with the help of all his Dogster friends! He truly was special and you've all allowed him to help other special dogs in need - and this contest has given many equally special pups their chance to shine and find furever homes!

Way to go, Dogsters!

Adopt 2010 Contest

In 1996, I was one year old. My owners had left me with the neighbors on their farm, while they moved. They promised they'd come back for me. I waited and waited, days and days went by. They never came back. The neighbors put an add in the paper for a dog, free to good home. Many people came to look at me, but I was hyper, big and a 'pitbull'. No one wanted me. The neighbors regretfully decided they would have to put me down as they could no longer care for me and no one wanted me. Then, a young teenage boy showed up. He said he had gone all over the place that day looking at dogs. He was looking for a bull dog. I showed him my best skills and jumped on him, tore up a blanket and ran around like the crazy energetic boy I was. They told him they were going to put me to sleep, whatever that means, the very next day. Well this young boy wouldn't have it, and he stuffed my big old body in the backseat of the car and took me home. It was love at first sight for both of us. For the next 9 years we shared many adventures, moved from home to home, and had lots of fun! Dad was my best friend, and I was his.

In 2005, Dad was all grown up and he met a woman. She was afraid of big dogs, and especially 'pitbulls'. But she pet me, and played with me anyways. I liked her a lot and it seemed like she liked me. Soon she began staying at our house even when dad was at work. I gave her space and kept to myself. It wasn't long before she was inviting me up for snuggles on the couch with her on nights we were alone, and taking me for walks during the day, just me and her. I was really starting to like this lady! One morning she woke up to find me beside her side of the bed, on the floor. Usually I slept in my own room or on the couch when dad went to work. This day, I wanted to be with her, I loved her. That is the day I stole her heart and she became my Mom. The next 5 years were blissful as we all made a happy family. Mom fell more and more in love with me each day as we bonded. I was a momma's boy through and through. Mom says Dad adopted me, and I adopted HER! The day I was sent to the rainbow, was a day that changed everyones lives. Mom says there will never be a boy like me again, and mom will always love me best.

Because I adopted Mom and made her fall so wildly in love with my charm, my wit, my intelligence and endless love - Mom has now dedicated herself to 'Bullies' and hopes to some day run a rescue when she and Dad get their acreage up and running. Because I was so special many other pups and dogs will get a chance at life and love with my family!

-A note from Ponch's mom

Ponch was a very special boy to everyone he met! He stole the hearts of everyone he came across and was definitely a positive representation of 'bully breeds'. Before Ponch I had never been around big dogs, and definitely had a negative opinion of bully breeds from media exposure. There was not a mean bone in this big boys body! He was protective, loving, wise and kind. Everything a dog should be and more. The only mark this 'bully' ever left on me, is an ever lasting paw print on my heart.

I don't know if you believe in fate, but I do. Ponch took a turn for the worst right before Christmas, in fact it was Christmas Eve 2009 that we were in a mad panic trying to figure out how to make our travel plans work and take care of him, because he'd all of a sudden lost all control of his bladder. He seemed to be getting better and we made it through January. Then, it all fell apart and he went downhill in a matter of days. On February 26th, 2010, we sent Ponch home to the rainbow, with lots of tears and love.

Christmas Eve 2009, 3 beautiful 'pitbull' x lab puppies were born and taken to a shelter. The puppies were bounced around and one was attacked and ended up needing an amputation - this nearly eliminated his chances of being adopted any time soon, and combined with his breed, his fate was definitely uncertain. These puppies became available for adoption at 9 weeks old, on February 26th, 2010. I believe my big guy knew there was a very special puppy out there who needed a savior. Ponch is Dante's angel.
