Getting Old isn't for Wimps

Workmen in my House and Getting Old

Last week was really fun. A nice man named Mike came on Monday and spread tarps from the front door to the bathroom. Then he started pulling bathtub panels out, knocking holes in the walls and carrying wall chunks out. They were black and moldy. Mom put me in the bedroom with a yummy bone and she and Rethy left. She had taken Kermit somewhere else on Sunday. Later, Julie, our neighbor, let me out so I could supervise Mike. Periodically, he would tell me I'm a good girl and give me scritches.

He left and Julie came over to feed me dinner, let me out and whatnot. The next day, three men came, including Mike. They knew I am in charge, so I got lots of attention. The next day, Mike and yet another man came. Again, more scritches and lots of attention. I missed Mom, Rethy and Kermit, but I have an important job and it's good people working in my house knew it.

I have been feeling old lately. My body hurts, hips and elbows especially. Mom gives me treats with glucosamine in them and squishes up dog friendly aspirins and mixes them with my food. They help a little, but I just hurt. In my mind, I should be able to run and play, but when I try, it doesn't feel good. Rethy plays with me gently because she understands. Mom empathizes and rubs me under the chin, says what a "love bucket" I am and is sorry I hurt. She explains that age changes things. Periodically she tests my hearing by whispering my name when I'm not looking. I always turn around and look which pleases her.

Evidently when dogs get as old as I am, worn out parts are just expected. If it keeps getting worse, Mom promised we will go see my vet for something called "pain management". I'd rather get "pain elimination" but they don't offer that. I'm glad we don't have stairs anymore and that I have a good family and get lots of love.

yes, isn't it great to have workers around the house? It's my favorite, too. First I bark at all of them and then I collect all the cuddles and bring them balls and stuff. Works well :o)
Has your mom tried to put you on a low dose of Tramadol? Unfortunately Aspirin does not help for the getting old and stiff and hip issue pain. But it's good to keep the blood flowing :o)
Sending you healing thoughts and mom just saw the PoP on Jolanda's page - thank you and your sister so much Belle!
