Arrival Story:
We had been looking for a new dog after we had to put Smokey to sleep back in November. I happened to see a photo of Bear on the Huron Valley humane society website. He looked so cute with that cone on his head. (he had had eye surgery.) We went to see him, and brought him home that same day!

The Diary of Bear the Dog

Our New dog Bear

We had not planned to get a big dog, at least not one as big as Bear.
He weighs 70 pounds! That's almost twice what our other dog Smokey weighed.
I would not trade him for a smaller dog though. You cane give Bear a hug and not worry about squishing him!

We will always wonder about his past. The Humane society said he was found a stray. He was well fed and didn't look like one that's for sure! He is so mellow and well trained. He knows several commands, and he even comes when you call! That was something we never were able to get Smokey to do. Why would anyone get rid of such a nice dog? Yea, he's had an ear infection already, and he's shedding up a storm, but is that any reason to let a dog go? We are not even sure what his real name was. The name he had at the humane society was "Hitch". We asked ourselves "What's up with that?" He looked like a big black bear to us, so that's what we changed his name to. We are taking him to an obedience class now, and he seems to be familiar with what we are going over. I think he has been in a class before. The folks at Country Kennel really like Bear. They knew Smokey 'cause that's where we boarded him while we were on vacation, and where he went through obedience classes too. Maybe we can get Bear trained so he can get the "Canine Good Citizen" certificate. He would be a great therapy dog.
