Arrival Story: Moquie was part of a puppy mill raid in Kennewick, WA in May of '09. She was one of 420 American Eskimo dogs pulled from one demented elderly woman. Moquie was living in an upside down shopping cart & had been bred at least once if not more. The woman lost her outlet when Scamp's Pet Centers were closed down.
Oregon Humane Society took 95 of them & we were so lucky to get her! She was afraid of everything, didn't know what a toy was, didn't knw what a treat was, didn't know much about humans. The folks at OHS were superb in their work to get her to an adoptable state. She was fully vetted, spayed, groomed, & micro-chipped.
She was shown on OHS website & we scrambled over there with Triqusie for a meet & greet. Moquie was already gone so we interviewed another but she was already under consideration by another family who did go ahead with adoption. When we got home my wife jumped back on the 'net & found her listed at Family Dogs' New Life Shelter in Portland. Her name was Jaycie then.
They were ecstatic that there was an interest after just one day. This was 2 months post raid. Her favorite buddy at New Life was a male pit bull which picked up her lead & walked her around the exercise area! To this day she investigates all of the pit pups that she encounters & shows special affection for the males.
She has really developed into a sweet little character. I call her my 1 dog comic strip unless she's with other dogs & then she's a circus. She gets along well with nearly all other dogs but is still a bit shy. She's gradually getting more open to meeting new people who are "out of her pack". It's been a joy to watch her come out of her shell & learn how to be a pet. She even teases Triqusie with toys occasionally & tries ro bully her when T's not doing just what M wants. She's come so far in 8 months! We've met 3 other dogs from the same operation & they all seem to have an uncanny recognition of each other.
