Arrival Story:
After my American Bulldog , Pete, died of a tumor on his hip, the house was incredibly quiet. A few weeks after, I was looking online to see if there were any pups for sale near by. There was and due to the pups being a little older than the cute little 8 week old puppies that everyone wanted, these were a little less money. Sadie came home with us after our first trip to the kennel.

Sadie-The Saga

Sadie continues to be a goofy AB pup. She's a little over a year old now, has gone thru one heat cycle and I Hope to get her spayed later on this month. No puppies here for us. One is Enough.

She knows 'sit', 'stay', 'come' ( when her tunnel vision hasn't kicked in),'shake' and 'down' Her FAVORITE game is "I have the leash and you can't get it !" Basically the rules are she hangs on to the end of the leash that Isn't attached to her, and I have to act like a monster who is coming to 'get' her. She runs like a maniac , leash gaily waving behind her. This lasts maybe 20 minutes and we are both worn out . In the house, its a game of keep away with what ever she happens upon first from her tons of toys. I think her favorite toy is one of Pete's old ones. Its a purple rubberized bone shaped thing that squeaks when squeezed. She Loves it and can just about compress it easily now. The idea of this inside game is a tug o'war.

Sadie is a joy to have around. She has tried her darned-est to eat bad things for dogs, but luckily I caught her in time. So no more troubles in that area. < whew>

She is still allergic to sawdust/ shavings - so that means I do not have a Barn Buddy as Pete was for many years. I miss that terribly- but its better to miss it than to have an itchy pup !

The Saga of Sadie's Surgery

Seems like there's a lot to catch up on concerning this puppy !

As told by Sadie :
On March 5th, my human noticed that I didn't feel good. I threw up all of my breakfast- yes, ALL over the pretty carpet. Ugh- I felt terrible. My mom called her horse vet and asked about a puppy having an upset tummy. The vet- she's my favorite vet and now I have TWO favorite vets - told her to not feed me for 24 hrs so my tummy could rest some and then to start feeding me just little bits of food again. Well, turns out it was much worse than just me having an upset tummy. I didn't want to eat Anything the next day, so my mom made an appointment at the dog hospital near by. She was very worried about me- I guess she really does love me a LOT. My dad n' mom drove me to see the Dr, and he felt my tummy too. He said he'd like me to stay over night so he could see if he could get me to throw up what ever I'd eaten- AND he took some pictures of my insides ! That was pretty cool. Thats when he Definately wanted to keep me overnight.

I didn't throw up anything small and round like the people had seen on my insides pictures all night, so the Dr called my mom to tell her he'd like to do a surgery on my tummy to get Out what ever was in there making me so sick. She said " do it". About an hour and a half later, the Dr. called my mom - I was still sleeping- and told her that he'd found a very soggy kitty toy in the shape of a little fuzzy ball AND a long length of Something . The kitty toy I ate a couple of weeks before and kept that slice of old green bed sheet a secret from her. Now they'd know though ! I had two cuts in me- one into my intestine to get the long length of bed sheet out and then into my stomach to get the ball . Good grief- my mom sure was happy to hear I was going to be Fine. I got to stay at the Drs for three whole days- that might have been fun but I didn't feel so good. I hurt and slept a Lot. There was a nice lady that would sit with me and pet my head so I didn't miss my mom to terribly.

When mom n' dad came to get me- oh Boy were they happy !!! I just wanted to go meet the other dogs there and go home. Its been almost three weeks now since I had my tummy operation and the stitches are gone, I feel Great and my mom is Very careful about what I might try to eat now. She's taking all my fun away...... But she says its because she n' my dad love me sooooo much .

Sadie Saga

Sadie settled in easily. The first two weeks, I got up twice a night to take her out so she wouldn't make a mess in her kennel. Sometimes it worked, sometimes I was to late. She was SO embarrassed at her poopies. Needless to say- being a white dawg, Sadie got a LOT of baths ! It wasn't long until she figured it out. All this time, she would have hives- an allergic reaction to SOMETHING. We knew she was allergic to shavings and made sure she stayed out of the horse stalls . STILL something was making her be hive covered and itchy. I thought and thought- WHAT could be doing it !?!?! One night, I was watching tv and pow ! There was my answer- Sadie had been sleeping on Pete's old fluffy bed... MIGHT it have shavings in it too ? The next morning, I undid the zipper on the cover- and there was the smell of Pete ( :( and cedar shavings ! That bed got tossed out and that day Sadie had her Own hypo allergenic dog bed- in white. Not one problem Since then. DUH
