Arrival Story:
Izzy is a wonderful dog. It is by God's divine appointment that she is ours. Izzy previously belonged to a 15 year old young man with cerebral palsy. Izzy is kind, sweet and eager to please, however she was too strong for this young man to handle safely. His mother told me she had waited many month to find Izzy an new home because she is such a sweet dog. In Feb I traveled from Oklahoma to Florida, stopping in Georgia to visit family. While there I picked up the local newspaper from my aunt's table to look at job posting for nurses the pets were right below it. My husband has for years talked about wanting to get a Springer. In the fall we had bought 28 acres for us and my horses. Just before I left for Fl he had been looking at springer on the internet. Seeing the add English Springer Spaniel FTGH, I called and made arrangement to see IZZY. The mom brought Izzy to where I was visiting, it was raining and cold I figured if the dog was unruly she would most likely do so in an unfamiliar environment. I got a surprise. She was sweet, well behaved kind and very smart. I ask if I could have a couple of days to visit with my husband. I called the owner back and made arrangements for Izzy to become ours. The hitch was I did not visit with my husband. I decided that Izzy would be his Valentine from me. So for 2 weeks Izzy traveled with me without his knowledge. This was a bit of a trick as we spoke every day and I was staying with our daughter. Everyone had to keep the secret including Izzy. When I talked on the phone she was always quiet and well behaved. On Feb 18 Bruce flew to Fl to meet me Izzy stayed at the house. Bruce and I ran errands for 2 hours. When we arrived at the house I made Bruce sit in a chair outside the front door with eyes closed and brought Izzy to him. He was shocked!!!! Now he wasn't happy with me at first because we currently are living in a rented house in town until we build on the property. We had rented a truck and were moving another load of our belongings from Fl to Ok so Izzy was in for another long trip. On the drive Bruce was amazed at how well Izzy traveled. Bruce told everyone that he and Izzy were dating. Well it has been 2 weeks and Izzy and Bruce are buddies. It took a while because Izzy and I had spent 2 weeks together and Bruce was a new person. Now Izzy is choosing to spent time with Bruce over me and that is a very good thing. Izzy's life is different now, she spends several hours each day at the property. She has 2 new friends, my horses Joy and Sage. She has learned that she must come when called even from long distances and she has learned that she must stay inside the property fence lines. She has also learned a few new behaviors. She no longer jumps up on people tho she still "talks with her feet" she as learned that those paws must not touch people. She has also learned to relax on a bed provided for her in the living room and not on the couch and to lay under our feet quietly at meals. Her newest thing is she has learned to ride to and from the property in the back of my pick up. Bruce says she "smiles" alot at the property. She is learning that Bruce will get on the ground or floor and wrestle with her.
