Bio:
Jake came here aged 10 months as a rescue from West Midlands Basset Hound Welfare. He'd been very well cared for but his previous family could no longer keep him. He's a bit shy when he first meets people but quickly warms to them. He hates going walkies at school-out time because the kids call out 'Sausage Dog'! and crowd round to make a fuss and pat him! His best mates are Harvey Hound (Basset), a GSD called Scruffy and a Welsh Springer Spaniel by the name of Frodo.

48 Basset Hounds all in one place!

Well, it's Sunday. Harvey Hound and I were hoping for (another) long lie-in this morning, with bacon sandwiches and belly rubs. However, our slaves had other ideas... We went for a drive to a place in the middle of the countryside where lots of cars were parked. We got out and...WOOF WOOF BARK BARK HOWWWWLLLL!!! There were Bassets everywhere, loads of them, and it turns out we're all going walkies together!

Before we set off the Basset slaves drank mulled wine and are mince pies and people took photos of us all in a group. I counted 48 Basset Hounds and 13 honorary Bassets (I wonder how many gallons of drool?!). Then we walked...and walked, and walked. There was good sniffing (deer, rabbits, other hounds) and plenty of places to rest and drink and pee and nobody got lost. Eventually we got back to the car: oh, for a sit down and a snooze on the journey home.

But what's happening? This isn't the way home...we're at a pub! I can smell food...and we're all going inside! The slaves sat down to eat and we Bassets lay under the tables. People brought us treats and presents and we had their left-over dinners. Then we all sniffed and slobbered 'goodbye' and came home.

I'm so tired I can barely lift my paw to type this diary. Harvey and I had a great time and will now settle down on the sofa for a nice...zzz....zzzzz....zzzzzzzzzzzz

I won First Prize!

This diary entry is a bit late but I've been very busy sleeping...

Mom took me to a Basset Hound Fun Day a while back. I never saw so many bassets all in one place! Each one smelled different (had to check to make sure).

They had competitions and prizes (yum!). One of the competitions was for 'best Rescue Hound'. Guess who won first prize for the best rescue male basset?! I got a red rosette, some treats and lots of snuggles from my mom...oh, and extra dinners!

A Basset's Life...

...is good! I get walkies every day with my best friend Harvey. I spend three days a week at the dogsitter's with lots of other dogs. Mom and I snuggle up together to sleep every night. And I have loads of treats and squeaky toys to play with. Oh...and a comfy sofa to lie on.

My only complaint is about the catering facilities. She gave me poached salmon fillets twice last week (muttered something about it being in the freezer for too long). Most dinners are fresh minced beef with kibble and chopped cabbage, served up in a Wedgwood dog bowl (sigh). Most of my doggie friends get dog food. Why not me? Perhaps I should complain...
