Arrival Story:
Tim and I had had settled into our house just a few months long enough to decide we were almost ready for a dog. We had near-about directions to the County Animal Shelter and picked a day to visit. On our way, we stopped off at a retail store, and when we checked out, we asked for more detailed directions to the County Shelter. The Manager was helping us and he provided directions then added, "If you don't find the dog you're looking for, I have a puppy I've been taking care of. He is about 6 months old, my neighbor was sent to prison, and his puppy was abandoned in his home three days before anyone realized. I rescued the dog from the house and have been taking of him since then. He's a mixed lab puppy." He gave us his name and the store's phone number. We went on to the "pound" and there were only two dogs there, neither we connected with well. Tim called the store the next day, talked to the manager, got directions and set up a time we would visit him at his house to meet the puppy. On the way for our visit, Tim made it repeatedly clear that were not going to get attached and we were just going out to look at the puppy. We pulled up to the house and the man already had the puppy in the yard ready to meet us. Tim looked at me as we parked, reminded me that we were here just to look and not to get attached. He got out of the truck first and by the time I turned from shutting the door, he had the puppy in his arms, walking back to the truck, both were smitten. "Oh, we are taking this dog." , Tim said. The puppy said the same with his eyes, and my heart melted to seal the deal. The kind man's kids had named the puppy Blackie, we called him Jackie by the time we got home. Now he is our Jack, the Paisano.
