Well here we are into 2013, hope everyfur had a good Christmas and didn't gain too much weight, but if you did now is the time to walk it off - get those pawrents out there - well depending on the weather in your area - it's pretty good here, just the occasional bit of snow, mostly rain, a few dry breaks..we go out most days.
Mom is still walking funny, and dad is still the only one walking us. So far mom's had some physiotherapy on her knee but seems to have reached a plateau, the therapist doesn't think she can do much more until mom gets an MRI to really know what is going on in there. She had an x-ray and we're still waiting to hear, but that will only show arthritis and not any soft tissue stuff. Mom says the only good thing is that we now have a house cleaner coming in twice a month to do the stuff she finds difficult. On the first visit the cleaner did the floors, vacuuming and two bathrooms in two hours, we thought that was pretty good, but it did involve showing her around and getting to know her a little, and of course she did have to spend time petting us !! BOL BOL
We're trying to get some photos of the three of us together, but it's hard to photograph a black pup; what do you think of our first attempt - a bit dull maybe? We'll try to add a bit of color.
Hope things are good with all of you ! Arroooooooo

oh the weather outside is frightful,
but the house is so delightful
and since we've got food and treats,
let it rain, let it rain, let it rain
or if it really has to rhyme, how about:
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
but the house is so delightful,
and since we've got food (no grains)
let it rain, let it rain, let it rain !

Help! mom's knee gave out a couple of days ago and she can't do nuttin'. She has been hobbling around, applying ice, and holding on to walls and counters. She can't walk us, so we go with dad. We are used to going all together as a pack, and we were puzzled when he tried to take us by himself. we kept looking back but mom didn't appear.
mom is very upset that her knee is preventing her from her usual activities and very worried about how long it might go on for. she managed to get in for physiotherapy, and all they could say is that it is inflamed, but can't tell what is causing it. We'll try to get her a dogtor appointment this week.
what are we going to do, we just want our mom and our routine back !!

She must be adopted though, cause she don't look nuttin' like us! Mom explained she is a 'toy poodle.' we didn't think much of her the first few days, she was quiet as a mouse and pretty much minded her own business - but now, BOL the honeymoon is over!! She can bark as loud as us, maybe even louder! YES!! Geneva, welcome to the fold !!

Rain, rain and more rain, enough already!! Yesterday was our monthly schnauzer walk and we were praying for a fine day - and we got it ! The rain stopped for the afternoon and we were able to meet our furiends, some old some new, at the dog park and had a fine time working off all that pent up energy. So much to sniff, and we had to replace all our messages that had been washed away. It was a good afternoon.
Today: back to rain - there's nuttin' to do but bark! Bark at all the umbrellas going by, bark at dogs in rain coats, bark at kids huddled over scurrying to school, bark bark bark !!

First of all, we are fine - the pawrents not so much. we were going on a long car ride last week, when a car suddenly zoomed out from a side road and tried to make it across the highway right in front of us! There was no way to stop in time and nowhere to turn with traffic in all lanes. It's a miracle more cars were not involved. Our poor SUV is all crumpled in the front now and gone to hospital. The driver says she did not see us :(
We were sleeping on the back seat and weren't moved around much although Dixie slid onto the floor. The nice firemen who attended gave us a care bear!
The pawrents have a lot of upper body pain, some of it from the seat belts probably. It hurts them to do almost anything, it even hurts to open the fridge door! We were worried this might interfere with our meals and we would have to dial meals-on-paws, but mom is managing. The dogtor says they will probably have pain for about 6 weeks!
Be careful out there every fur, this is no way to get a new teddy bear!

we must have the cleanest faces in town. We like to sit in the bathroom and watch mom in the morning when she washes her face and brushes her hair, so she gets this bright idea she should do the same to us.
As soon as she's done fixing herself she wrings out a wet face cloth and says "face wash" in that 'happy voice' (you know what we mean), and silly little us, we just sit there and turn our faces up and she wipes them all over, and our eyes, then she combs our beards, tells us how beautiful we are, and then we go have breakfast.
We can't believe we're doing this, but she thinks it's cute, so we'll just let her keep thinking it, gotta admit it can feel pretty good, and it gets us extra points !
PS mom here - if only they were as good about teeth cleaning !

Ick! Ick! our first diary entry and it has to be something like this..
We were informed by our dogtor last week that there have been six reported cases of raccoon roundworms in dogs in our little corner of the world. Four recovered but two went to the Bridge. Apparently this particular worm can be very serious for us dogs, sometimes fatal. It was because of this that the dogtor recommended we be wormed monthly, but just how many months we should do it we don't know.
We had never heard of this worm before so we went searching for info, and here's what we learned....
Dogs can become infected from coming into contact with raccoon feces, from ingestion of the eggs, or from ingestion of animal tissue that is infected with the roundworm (e.g., rabbits, birds, etc.), or from close contact with other infected animals.
It can often be treated in adult dogs, but is almost always fatal for puppies. (note: same for cats and kittens). In addition, because the worm sometimes attacks the brain and nervous system, this infection may be mistaken for rabies. If rabies is suspected, you may wish to ask your veterinarian to test for the presence of the roundworm.
There is lots of info if you query "raccoon roundworm dogs", here are a few of the sites we visited:
Ohio State University factsheet
Humans can get it too
Since we go to parks/trails where there are raccoons, mom decided better safe than sorry, she picked up meds (Strongid) from the dogtor and we had our first dose today - here's hoping everything will be ok.
Stay safe out there every fur! BOL BOL
