Hi Everyone
Just wanted to let you know that Alec and I did get our cake and cookies too. On top of our wonderful cake was one cheeseburger cookie and one Cinnamon crunchie. Alec and I permitted the other dogs in our pack to have cake but we did not share our favorite cookies.

My Birthday 2010

Hey it's my first birthday since I was adopted by my mom. I have lived with my mom for a couple of years but I used to be shared by three people so this is my first year being adopted by my mom alone. By the way I love my forever home and have a mom who I adore. I am still the rescue mascot so I have to go to pet stores and events. I would much rather stay home but at least I get my mom to myself when we go. Today I hope Alec and I both get cake. Alec likes cinnamon crunchies, I like cheeseburger cookies. I hope we each get our favorite cookies. No breakfast yet. I am hoping for bacon and eggs. Don't laugh it could happen. Dogster wished me a happy birthday. That was nice to wake up to. Have a great day everyone. I know that I will.

Takoda came from a Shelter. He had been running the streets for a few days. When the rescue picked him up he was malnourished, six pounds, and had a horrible coat. The Rescue Director called two of us and said we had to meet him. Foolishly we went to her house to meet the boy. We both fell in love of course. At the time the Director was housing had a dog with aggression issues. I was worried about the fragile little boy I had met tangling with the 35 pound irritable guy. The other volunteer called to inform us that she had decided that the three of us, she, the director and myself should adopt him and make him our mascot. I brought him to my house a few days later. The three of us signed the adoption paperwork and joked about who got which part, head, middle and butt. At the time he was being called little T so I tried to come up with a name that started with T. We agreed upon the name, Takoda. He was to live with me and take part in fundraisers and the like. I had never had a dog that was so under weight so this would be a challenge. The first couple of weeks he had to be fed several times a day so that he would not get sick. It did not take long for T. to gain several pounds and become less frightening to the touch. He had those rear end bones that kind of stick up when he came in. Very scary to look at. A few months later when he visited the vet to become smart (we tell our dogs they are going to be tutored instead of neutered) he weighed eleven pounds. That made the vet and me very happy. At some point I learned that Takoda had food aggression issues. He snapped at the other members of his pack when he had bully sticks, cookies or food and they came near. I decided to put a halt to this ASAP. My pack shares period so when I went to take the bully from Takoda and he snapped at me I assured him that his reaction was improper, claimed the bully and have never had a problem with that behavior since. I still can not believe how little it took to persuade him. All that I had to do was stare him down and he backed off. Dogs are so smart. Takoda has become very attached to me. When we were in Obedience training I took him to a friends house to practice. My friend now tells people that someday Takoda is going to walk into a tree because he never takes his eyes off of me. It's true he just watches me with those loving eyes of his. I had to scold him a few weeks ago and he actually had tears in those sweet little eyes. I felt so bad but I knew I was right to scold him. Just like with children they have to know the boundaries in order to be happy. In the mornings when I leave for work Takoda will run to the family room so that he doesn’t have to watch me leave. He is the first to the door on my return. Isn't that funny. The other volunteers had to finally concede that Takoda would never be happy in their homes. We had initially planned to have him spend time in each home. The three of us agreed that I should adopt him for myself. So that completes my pack of five. I have to leave room in case my first foster gets returned due to financial issues with his forever home and six is my limit. I do miss having a sheltie of normal size however, since all of mine are 15 pounds and under. Takoda is a whopping 13 pounds which his vet said was perfect weight for him. Takoda still goes with me to events and he sits on my shoulder like a parrot part of the time. People just love seeing him up there. Every night he has to have time on my lap. He puts his tiny head right under my chin and snuggles. He is very special to me. I feel very fortunate to have such loving, intelligent dogs to spend time with. They make going to work in order to by kibble worth the effort.

Takoda is home forever

Hi
My Name is Takoda. I am the mascot for Central Ohio Sheltie Rescue, Inc. I have been living with my mommy Nee for a couple of years. I adore my mommy and cannot stand to be away from her. No I do not howl and cry when she leaves. I just do not happen to like it. Every day she leaves for this place called work. I don't like to watch her leave so I run downstairs. That way I don't have to watch her go out the door. I live a spoiled but disciplined life.
Mom says I am very well behaved in public. I have to go to lots of different fundraisers and am always on my best behavior. Three people in the Rescue adopted me when I first came in. Back then I weighed six pounds and my coat was horrid. Mom fed me several times a day. I now weigh 12 pounds and have a beautiful full coat that no longer makes me itch. I only get to eat twice a day now but my bowl always contains some fresh meat, vegetables, fruit or yogurt and fresh baked dog biscuits which I love. The cheese and Bacon are my favorites but I also like the banana/cranberry and liver and bacon cookies.
Today my mom adopted me all by herself. She said it was because I would be very unhappy somewhere else. Her friend always jokes that I am going to run into a tree someday because I am always watching mom instead of where I am going.

She also adopted that brat Chance. Now I will have to put up with his infantile acts forever. Oh well there are times when he can be fun and he is my brother now. Oh and by the way no one outside of our pack is permitted to say Chance is infantile.
T.
