Arrival Story:
Sophie came to live with us February of 2009. My daughter picked her out, there were three other puppies. Sophie was the most outgoing and mischevious. She has ended providing alot of comical memories. She has always been very talkative, if you start fussing at her she will grumble and growl right back at you. She is also very sneaky, I am constantly finding miscellaneous laundry hidden under the bed. She also loves to dig, she always digs on the couch or pillow where she is getting ready to lay down and rest. She has a lot of personality and is very sweet.

The art of waking up a human

I am a early bird...well you know what I mean. But sometimes my mommy does not like to wake up early. I try to stay asleep and move in different positions so mom can sleep in but it just doesn't work, not to mention once I wake up I usually go potty immediately. I have different strategies for waking mommy up. On week days when she gets up early for work, I try to wake her up lovingly before that awful alarm goes off. I figure it is a much better way to start off the day. I will crawl up from under the blankets and give her hugs by laying my neck across her neck. I switch sides of her neck to let her know I am trying to wake her up and not just snuggling. Usually this does the trick and she is happy to see me and gets up right away. Sometimes she is very tired and I have to push a little harder. Since I am already at her face I will start licking her face, Mom doesn't like being licked in the face. When this happens she usually pushes me away, which is fine by me because my next move is to go after her toes. She absolutely hates people touching her feet so this drives her nuts and she out of bed lickity split! I crawl back under the blankets and start nibbling her toes (she claims that I am biting her, but really it's for her own good). I nibble a few times and she flings her feet over the bed and we are off for the morning. Mom thinks she is in charge but who are we fooling here???

I would like to give you my thoughts on sweaters for dogs....or at least this dog. My mom insists that I wear sweaters when it is cold. She is afraid that I will get too cold and start to shiver. I try to make it abundantly clear that I don't like sweaters and that I would rather be chilly. Sometimes when she comes home from work we will go on walks, even when it's chilly outside. First of all, I would like to point out that I am a long haired dachshund. It's practically a fur coat that never comes off; sweater not needed. Secondly, when we are walking I have to keep up with my mom, her legs are only 100 times longer than mine so I am moving pretty fast to keep up with her. Therefore, I am working and getting all heated up; sweater not needed. But still, she does not understand this simple fact. When she puts a sweater on me, I go completely rigid and give her sad eyes. I put my head down and look at her only with my eyes, not moving my head up. I don't move and just stand there trying to look as miserable as possible. Mom will start gathering leashes and such and try not to notice my pathetic look, she will finally laugh and come scoop me up. I love it when she scoops me up and holds me but being that I am a stubborn dog I look away from her and try to re-interate the fact that I hate wearing sweaters. When will she ever learn?

Wow, my first diary on my first webpage. I am one special pup....well, actually I just turned one year old so that makes me practically a grown up dog now. I have had a busy first year of life. So many new things have happened and I have discovered so much. And recently, I have just discovered snow! Mom says it snowed once when I was a very young puppy but I don't remember it. She said I didn't like it though, too cold and I was too short to see over the snow. But I LOVE it now! I've had so much fun playing in it. I like to dig in it and run run run! I usually end up dirty and wet when I come back inside. I like to stay out there and sometimes when mommy calls me to come back in, I pretend like I can't hear her and I keep sniffing around like I am on the trail of a wild animal. Surely, she would understand if she thought I was doing some important business. She likes for me to chase the squirrels away from the bird feeder, but haven't seen many birds or many squirrels lately. Seems like the snow makes them go away. Thats a bummer. Mom wants me to start recording stuff in my diary so she will never forget all the funny things I do. So, until next time...or next snow day, it's been snowing almost every other day here so it might be sooner than you think!
