Arrival Story:
My friend Mia called in tears from a local shelter. A very old sheperd had been brought in as a stray and this was her euthanization day. She was not considered adoptable because of her condition and her age. Mia knew that this dog had more ahead of her and that a better life could be hers if only for a short time. Our Shadow had just passed away a month earlier, and I knew he would be happy if we helped another senior dog in his honour, so I told Mia to bring her over and Princess came home :)

Bio:
I later found out that poor Princess had been fending for herself on the street for over 2 weeks before she was brought to the shelter. She was very, very thin and my husband and I worked hard to get her as healthy and happy as we could. Princess lived with us for almost 3 months. We knew that she was not well when she came to live with us. We knew that degenerative myelopathy was incurable and that life would get harder for her as time went on. We simply managed each challenge as it came to us. When Princess started losing control of her back legs we had her wear muttluks to help her grip the floor a little better. When she couldn't get up in the mornings I lifted her and helped her stand so she could potty. Any pain or discomfort she had was managed with daily medication. When the sad day came and she told us it was time, Mia and I took her to the vet and she died peacefully in our arms while we cried. Princess was a beautiful and gentle soul. I miss her very much.
