Arrival Story:
My dad, for some reason, has an affinity for tri-colored dogs. And, my mom always wanted a Sheltie when she was a girl. Less than a year before Penny arrived home, our family Beagle passed away after losing a battle with cancer. My mom had not really liked the Beagle because she was very stupid/misbehaved during her lifetime. Therefore, my mom was hesitant to get another dog, but my dad was pretty much adamant about it. My parents looked at several Sheltie puppies, but did not make a purchase. Eventually, they went to a breeder's home, but were not happy with the 2 puppies that were left because they did not have pretty markings. They did, however, see the parents. The mother was a very scrawny blue-merle and the father was a big-manly modelesque tri-colored Sheltie. They ended up leaving without making a purchase. Later on, they saw an ad for a Sheltie puppy in the local newspaper, so they went to look at it. It turns out the puppy was from the same litter my parents had visited. The owners had bought the puppy for their autistic child, but it did not work out. So, my parents ended up getting a beautiful Sheltie puppy and got her at a "bargain basement" rate. Her name was Kali, but we didn't think it fit her, so we changed it to Penelope. Penny is quite possibly the best dog ever and so much more than a dog. We love her.
