   Leave a bone for Chloe

Quick Bio:

September 26th 2008

Chloe is rather timid still. She is at ease with us, doesn't shake anymore, but she isn't really interested in treats or any toys yet. She sleeps a lot. She won't even explore the house or the yard too much.

When Chloe is on the bed with me watching T.V., she will growl or bark at my husband when he comes in the room.

Favorite Toy:
She has recently started chewing on a rawhide bone at night for just a tiny bit.

Favorite Food:
We started with IAMS but I'm looking into others right now. I want to see about adding yogurt to her food and see what I need to have her eating to help with tearing. So far, she only eats at night.

Arrival Story:
I knew I wanted a poodle, I had previously had one. I knew they were smart, had a long life span and were good with children. I kept looking & looking and one day on our local paper's website, I found a listing for FREE poodles. I called immediately and asked if she had any females. She was a breeder that was in her upper 60's looking to get out of the business and just didn't have the energy for all the dogs anymore. She was bringing them to her sons house the next day for me to see. When I got there, the dogs were just going wild and the boys were humping anything in site.:)lol Another lady already there took two of the silver male poodles and left. Several weren't for adoption and so she had one apricot female left. It took us awhile to find Chloe under the couch hiding. I instantly fell in love and wanted to protect and love her. The breeder had kept her in a kennel, she had never left the house, been outside, seen another human or been groomed before that day she met me. I don't believe the lady abused her, just really got overwhelmed and didn't have time for them anymore. She also took their food away every day at 3pm. Chloe went crazy in the backyard the first time, she even ran away once through a tiny hole in the fence. She would shake when anyone came near her, and we had to carry her everywhere. She still won't walk when the leash is on her--she goes stiff. Chloe only eats & DRINKS at night. And she will only go pee when I carry her to the door...but she's never had an accident. She sleeps all day but sits up and makes eye contact and licks my hand when I pet her. Chloe still doesn't come when her name is called, although now she seems to WANT to, but just doesn't have the courage to jump on the bed or get out of her bed and explore the house yet. She isn't motivated by treats and could care less if they are placed next to her or offered. And Chloe seems to have no clue what a toy is, the squeaky ball scares her. As soon as I can get good weather, I want to get her around some other dogs her size to socialize her more. I took her home to my busy, loud house with three boys and my husband. My oldest two sons have varying forms of Autism so it is never boring around here. She is loved and our baby hopefully for many, many years to come.
