Poor tucker has been having trouble since he got a Lyme vaccine last Thursday. Of course, directly after the vet visit, he was fine. The next day he was a bit lethargic in the am, but regained his energy in the afternoon. So much so, that he spent some time outside in the warm sun (60s, yea!) with a bone.
But, ever since, he's been up and down. In the am he's usually subdued, then picks up some energy in the afternoon. After he eats, though, he'll end up with the 'runs' and gets a bit lethargic again. Same thing in the evening and overnight the past few nights he's been unable to hold things in his crate. We called the vet, but of course, the actual vet wouldn't come to the phone and our response was just 'bring him in' tomorrow. Argh.
So, we turned to the internet to read about possible side effects of the Lyme vaccine and were shocked at what we found. There is a huge controversy regarding dog vaccinations, particularly Lyme vaccines. Ah, now why wouldn't our vet tell us about the risk of vaccinating Tucker? Maybe because they wouldn't want us questioning them as to why we would put him to such risk?
So, now we're in a bit of a quandry. Because, we've lost total trust in our vet. Ah, bring him in so we can charge you yet more for office visits, etc.. and, um, why educate us on a published risky practice? We might question whether you're just going through the motions with our pet or even care.
In the meantime, we're hoping Tucker gets better real soon. :-(
Wow! Tucker has shown definite dog interest in the bones lying around the house and yard. He's spent a bunch of time chewing on some of Kearny's old bones.
So, this past weekend, we cleaned out most of the marrow in a smaller bone and gave it to Tucker. He was in Heaven! He chewed on that for a long, long time. And, he's still got enough to go for a long time to come. Can definitely say that he really enjoyed that marrow bone. He's such a dawg!! LOL
Today was Tucker's first vet visit since he arrived at his new 'forever' home. And, what a day! It was about 10 degrees and blowing like crazy. So, Tucker got dressed up in his dandy plaid sweater and sweatshirt jacket to bundle up against the cold.
Curiosity was at a high today as he sniffed and scoped out all the new surroundings and people. Once in the examining room, he searched out the whole room for interesting 'tidbits' and smells. Of course, the wires under the table just kept calling to him!
The doctor said Tucker was healthy and looked very happy. He got his second (not sure as paperwork was a little unclear) distemper shot and poked and prodded. All systems were healthy and a go. He even got to chew on a few new fingers.
It only took a couple hours round trip and Tucker was back in his pile of chew toys and breakfast dish. Warm again and cuddling up.
