Leave a bone for Copper

Nicknames: Crazy-Daisy (due to my ears when I run!); ol' Buster (by Gpa John); Flash (by Dukes of Hazzard fans)

 Quick Bio:
 Birthday: August 14th 1999
Likes: I LOVE other doggie-pals and the Paw Park; There is NOTHING I do not like to EAT - except maybe lettuce on Fridays. ;)

Pet-Peeves: Having to WAIT to go on a walk; Rabbits on the OTHER side of the fence; And Aaaroooooo! I hate getting my nails clipped!!

Favorite Toy: A Stuffed Bear (until it becomes my prey and I get a new one); Wrestling Playtime with my "best friend" TaKita (a Golden Retriever / Newfoundland)

Favorite Food: Gma Frisbie's Dog Food Dishes -- typically mixed with her leftover steak, lasagna, or salmon!

Favorite Walk: George Wyth State Park - so many great smells to track around the lake! I also love running along side the ocean (but have learned NOT to taste the water...)

Best Tricks: I am great at tricking people - I'll pretend to need to go outside, so that my family will move and I can take their spot on the couch! ~I'm also an excellent Winker! (see my photo below) ;) ~

Arrival Story: My name is Copper but I was originally named Buddy by a previous owner. My new family spotted me tied up by a tight rope in the hot summer sun, getting eaten alive by bugs when I was 1 year old. I had a terrible bloody skin infection, was in a state of starvation (only 40 pounds compared to my now 90), and had no fur where the rope was digging into my neck. My new family couldn't leave me like this and offered my old owners $$ for me, which they gladly took saying they did not want me :( . I was HAPPY to jump into my new car with my new family, and although I did have some behavior problems for the first year (who wouldn't!) we soon became best of friends & family!

Bio: I have an exceptionally loooong body and a very strong, muscular build. I've been told by many people across the country that I am the "Biggest Basset" they have ever seen!
I love to travel with family and have been to 49 of the 50 states (still haven't made it to Hawaii). I love running beside the ocean and am very appreciative of "dog friendly" beaches in CA, VA & NC! :) If you have a suggestion for a good dog-friendly place to visit while on the road, I would love to hear about it! ---Copper

Right now I am kinda bummed because mom left me behind in Iowa while she traveled out to VA Beach to check out our new neighborhood that we will be moving to in 2007. She tells me I will love it - I guess we are moving to a place where dogs are really loved and accepted. Mom tells me I will have many new pupfriends to play with and will be able to run my heart out on the beach just 2 blocks away.
I am not a big fan of ocean water -- the first time I tried taking a sip I couldn't believe it! A whole body of water that I can't even drink?! Mom laughed at me as a squished up my face and sneezed at the taste of salt water. But I learned my lesson - no more drinking from the ocean!
She also tells me there are not as many rabbits to chase by the beach as there are in the Midwest...but I am sure it will be fun living right next door to the large state park. I see lots of long walks in my future... :)
Mom also says she is moving her Dog Walking & Canine Care business to our new location! I am excited for her!
If you are in the Virginia Beach area you will have to send me a note and tell me about all the hot-spots for us 4-leggers in the area. I'd love to hear from you.
Till later,
~Copper

Hello to all my furry pals out there! Once again the IA snow has melted and I am eagerly anticipating SPRING TIME ... longer days, more walks, more rabbits running around to chase!
Mom says its time for my doctor visit... I know I am due for quite a few shots, and I have to get my nails clipped again -- ooooo, just the thought of this makes me shiver. I know that I am never hurt at the vet -- they take really good care of me. But I just get so nervous because I never know what to expect. And I really don't like strangers in lab coats picking me up and forcing me to sit still on that cold bare examining table. It helps that Mom is there with me. She holds me close and talks to me and calms me down - tells me everything will be alright. So I guess I will survive and I'll let you know how it goes. :)
In the meantime - HAPPY ST PATTY'S DAY! I'm not really an Irish pup, but I'll pretend to be for all the extra kisses! ;-)

Sorry pals, haven't written much this winter. I've been out and about having too much fun...Got to go chase rabbits through the snow in WI, IL, OH, PA, NJ, NY and CT on my trip out East. Then we headed down south for a little warmer weather (to see Gma and TaKita who moved to Durham, NC). I got some great gifts for Christmas...and have made sure to take frequent romps through the IA snow because Mom says we might be living someplace without snow next winter! I wonder where the adventures will take me...Only hope they have good dog parks and fun walking trails wherever we venture to...Happy Valentines to all you cute pups out there!
~~Love, Copper~~
