After only being able to be at home a couple of days, Hero is back in
the hospital. He had persistent diarrhea and vomiting. After coming
home to find him very lethargic and unwilling to eat, I took him back
to the vet. He was dehydrated, had a temp of 96, and now has a white
count that is extremely elevated. While it looks like the Parvo has
moved out, a secondary infection has moved in and he does not seem to
be doing a good job of regulating his vitals. When I checked on him
again this afternoon, his temp was only 97 and his heart rate was 80.
This poor little guy can't win for losing.
On a positive note, his appetite is picking up and he is on reglan to
keep him from vomiting, and so far he is keeping down what he is
eating. Hopefully, if he can continue to eat and keep it down, he will
build up his strength so he can start fighting all this craziness on
his own.
Please keep him in your prayers, he refuses to give up and so do I.

Keep the prayers coming!! They seem to be making a difference :-)
While the improvements are ever so slight, I will take it!
His WBC count went up to 1.1 (three times what it was yesterday) His
neutrophils were actually measurable today, I think it was 12 but that
is better than 0, and his temp. is back to normal. Yay!! He is
definitely not out of the woods, but hopefully the improvements will
continue.

Hero is our little Parvo puppy- He has taken a bit of a downturn, which is disheartening, but I am told it can be very typical for Parvo. His white blood cell count took a nose dive to .58 (the low end of the reference range starts at 5.5), they are still just treating supportively with fluids and antibiotics for the time being without feeling like they need to do a transfusion or Hetastarch, which is a positive. He was much more depressed today compared to yesterday and blood/bloody diarrhea is continually leaking out of his poor little bottom. It breaks your heart to see such a kind little soul go through what he is facing right now. He does seem to be a fighter though and I have faith in the little guy that he will pull through! His medical bills will be upwards of 1000.00 plus dollars to save his life.
