Arrival Story:
As a tiny puppy, I was very sick in a municipal shelter. Some nice people from Forgotten Friends of Long Island rescued me, my siblings, and my mother from that shelter and nursed us back to health. Once I was healthy again, a lady fell in love with me and adopted me - I was so happy to have a home! Unfortunately, she later lost her job and her apartment and could not keep me any longer. FFLI gladly took me back, and I spent some time with a trainer learning great doggy manners. Now I am living with my foster momma, and she is determined to find me a forever home to call my own!

Today, I went to my forever home! They are a super-nice family with a mom, a dad, and two human puppies (I think people call their puppies "kids")! OMD are they nice and they sure love me a lot! FM brought me over to their house yesterday so we could meet. I ran around the backyard and played with the kids, and they gave me lots of treats and laughed really loudly and I loved everything about them! My new mom and dad and grandma really love me, too... they kept petting me and saying how handsome and sweet I was. My new dad bent down and opened his arms when he first came home from work, and I ran right into them and started licking his face! I was so happy to meet this nice family and I really hoped they wanted to take me... and they DID!

FM dropped me off earlier this evening. She went over lots of paperwork with my new mom while I played with my kids. My new family bought FM the biggest box of chocolates she's ever seen as a thank-you for fostering me. I think FM got teary-eyed a little bit, but I can't be sure... I have to admit that I was distracted by all of the biscuits that my kids were giving me! FM gave my new family a big bag of my yummy Taste of the Wild kibble, a bag of Old Mother Hubbard biscuits, and my stuffed Skinneeez skunk that I liked to shake and rip and tear. My new family said that they would take me to Petco and buy me my VERY OWN leash and collar and toys and even a big bed! All for ME! My tail can't stop wagging every time I think about the fact that this family is MINE!

Anyway, FM gave me a big hug and told me to be a good boy for my new family and to always be my sweet self. She gave me lots of kisses on top of my head and looked deep into my eyes and told me she would love me always. Then she started talking to my new mom again so I went off to play with my kids. I think FM tried to sneak out the door while I wasn't looking, but my kids yelled goodbye to her and I realized she was leaving. I ran over to the door and my new mom held me back as FM walked away. FM didn't look back at me but she could hear me pawing and crying at the door. I miss FM! Even though I love my new family already and am so happy to have them, I love FM and FA and FG and I will miss them all. Thank you so much for loving me, FM... I may not be yours, but you'll always be mine.

Me = toy destroyer!

So I have proven to be quite the toy destroyer! FM says that she's really glad I don't chew furniture or things that don't belong to me... but I sure do know how to kill toys! Anything stuffed and squeaky lasts about, oh, twenty seconds with my powerful jaws! I also love shredding the empty toy "carcasses" that are left after a good gutting! FM gave us these toys called Skinneeez, which basically have no stuffing in them but have a squeaker in the head and a squeaker in the tail. BOY, are those things fun even though there's no stuffing! I also have chewed the feet off of big Cuz balls, systematically destroyed the Leo toy from Canine Genius, and completely demolished a tennis ball... oh, that tennis ball! That was such great fun! FM just looked at all the pieces of tennis ball strewn over the carpet and shook her head and asked, "Did you have fun?" Yes, as a matter of fact, I DID! Shredding toys up is too much fun!

(But I need to remind you all that I do NOT chew on things that don't belong to me! No furniture, no shoes, no slippers, no nothing. The only thing I have done is stolen a paper towel or tissue or two and started to shred it... but FM stopped me and told me No and stuck something else in my mouth, like a cow hoof. Man, do I love cow hooves! I think I'll go chew on one right now!)

I visited the dog park!

Today FM and FA took me for a long car ride. Did I ever mention I am PAWSOME in the car? I settle right down in the backseat and I do not whine, bark, pace, try to jump in the front, or get sick. FM says I have perfect car manners! Just another reason for people to want to adopt me!

Anyway, we ended up at a place I heard FM and FA discussing as "the dog park." When I got out of the car, all I could do was stare. There was a HUGE field full of so many different dogs! Whoa! So many different smells and stimuli in one place! I was a little hesitant at first... after all, the last time I was brought to a place with many dogs, I had to stay there for a while and it wasn't as nice as living in a house. I was concerned that FM and FA were going to leave me there. They walked me into the park and took the leash off me and said, "Go ahead, Shotzie, go play!" For the first few minutes, I shied away from the other dogs and kind of sniffed and explored on my own, always keeping FM and FA in sight. After a little bit, though, I really warmed up to the experience and started having a great time! I was able to run and play with all kinds of dogs, and boy did I have fun! There was another dog there named Schatzi, but she was a girl and a purebred Rottweiler. She was really fat and really cute and apparently she kept following FA because FA was calling my name a lot - Schatzi the Rottie thought that FA was calling her name instead of mine! BOL! There was a Vizsla and a few pit bulls, and a Lab, and some huskies, and a greyhound, and a tiny chihuahua that had a coat and little boots on. I tried to sniff the chihuahua but she didn't like having any other dogs around her and she kept growling and snapping at all of us, so I gave up pretty quickly. FM says that I avoid drama and am very good with other dogs. I'm not sure what avoiding drama is, but I can tell you that there was a small group of dogs playing very roughly with each other and barking and snapping and making lots of noise. I stayed far away from those dogs, believe me! I prefer to play with the quieter dogs... and when a couple of small scuffles broke out, I headed far away from all the commotion. Fights? No thank you - I was there to play only! We stayed at the park for a while and then FM put my leash back on me and we went back into the car. Cool - I didn't have to stay there! It was fun and all but I really like living in a warm house!

We also went back to Pet Supplies Plus so FA could get some more kibble for her dog, Spice. I met a couple of people there and was a very good boy, except for when FM had to pull me out of one of the biscuit bins. HEY - if the store didn't want me to have 'em, they wouldn't put 'em where I can reach 'em! Hello! The biscuits are in open bins on the floor! Of course I will help myself to samples if I can! FM misses the simplicity of things sometimes. Oh well... she's only human!

On the way home, we went through the Wendy's drive-through and the humans got some delicious-smelling food. Boy did it smell fabulous - but I am a good boy and stayed in the backseat and did not try to take any of their food. Not one little bit! FM gave me a few fries and told me not to tell the other dogs that I got a special treat. I don't want to disappoint FM but they knew the second they smelled me. Us dogs have very efficient noses, you know! Luckily my foster siblings don't really hold grudges against me. They like me a lot now... today the four of us even slept in a big puppy pile together. It felt nice to be one of them for a little while. I would have liked it if Spice joined us too but she does not socialize with us. Tess says she's a snob. I don't know her well enough to judge her, but I like her okay. I like everyone okay!
