Arrival Story: My beautiful Abe had passed on. As the months passed, I heard about a collie who had gone from being a loving family dog to being abandoned in a doghouse in someone's back yard in the cold north country. Her only human contact had been someone pouring food into her dish once a day. She had been rescued and I was the lucky person approved to adopt her.
Bio: Ebbie is the most kind and loving dog you would ever want to meet. She has only been with me a few days but just wants reassurance and love. She is discovering the good life after being so neglected - she loves cooked lambchops and just being pet and scratched. She is a kind dog and excellent with all of my cats, especially the disabled one.
Ebbie lou: Ebbie is finally learning how to play with other dogs and has 3 close friends right now - Xena, Biscuit and Lucy. She is learning to jump and chase, something she didn't know how to do due to neglect and am imposed solitary existance.
You know, I've been watchin' my best friend Xena for a long time. Xena likes to do a lot of dog things...dig holes, chase balls and toys, and fetch sticks. Sometimes I help her dig holes - she digs them and I eat the dirt.....you can't just leave it there!!
Well, today Xena found a huge branch....She was chewing it all up trying to break it into pieces but it was just too big. Even Xena's mom couldn't break it up. So mama pulled another large branch with some of those real skinny branches and twigs coming off of it.
I thought "Hmmmmmmmm........." As mama dragged it by, I grabbed it and started chewing those little twigs all up. It felt really good in my mouth and teeth, like dozens of little toothpicks all at once. (Anyone who has seen me smile knows I could benefit from more than just a few toothpicks, but - Hey! - it's a start!)
What a relaxing way to spend an afternoon - laying on the grass in the sun, chewing a stick with my best friend. Why did I wait so long to do this?
Last night we had the first really bad storm ever since I came to live here. I was so scared and wanted to hide in the bedroom. Thunderstorms used to be so bad in the doghouse 'cause rain would come in on me, big thunders made the house shake, and branches and stuff would blow around and sometimes even try to hit me.
Last night I learned that thunderstorms also mean warm houses and bum scritches and hugs and loves from mamas. I stayed in the bedroom but mama kept callin' my name. I finally looked out and saw she had made a little shelter for me between the coffee table and the couch and I could actually lay under the table with something protecting my side and be with my mama. So out I came.
Mama petted me and skritched me all over, even my bum and ears! And she kept talkin' nice to me. I got brave enough to stand up finally and watch that storm through a little gap in the curtain. I stayed with mama gettin' my loves through the whole storm and learned that thunder does not have to be a bad thing.
After the whole thing was over I fell asleep in the living room and dreamed of storms where the lightning bolts formed hearts of love.
