Arrival Story:
In November of 2004 I was reading the classified section of a local newspaper, and read a FOUND ad stating: Young female border collie found wearing red white and blue collar, sweet, call xxx-xxxx Intuition told me that this would be our dog. I had my husband call the dog officer. He was skeptical, thinking the dog would be claimed. We heard nothing and had completely forgotten about this dog, when the phone rang on December 16th. It was the dog officer. Could we come see this dog today? After 12? She had been rehomed, and it did not work out. Not surprising, as this young, agile, smart border collie had been rehomed to a trailer home without a yard, and non-BC savvy owners. We drove out to the dog officer's home, and she led us into her barn. Opening the stall door, flashes of black, white, brown fur and dog pee streaked around at light speed and the dog literally thrashed off of us with joy. We went out to the dog officer's fenced area. We saw that this young dog had physical beauty and was as they say "All B.C." We knew she was desperately in need of getting out of that barn stall, and 20 minutes later she was in the car with us as a foster dog. Long story short, with great help from the NEBCR (without which we would have been lost, even though we are familiar with the breed) Molly is now ours and has changed our life. We have learned more in the past month than we ever thought possible. Molly is a medium drive border collie, content with a good amount of exercise daily and lots of thinking work from training, to puzzle feeders and all good things like that. We don't know what the future will bring--agility, perhaps?--but we know that we'll all learn a lot more! We are doing clicker training, and working with an absolutely fabulous trainer in our area on Molly's issues of jumping out of excitement and herding nips.

Bio:
Molly was tried on sheep in February 2005 and was found to have herding instinct. Molly had four short sessions in the round pen with some dog broke sheep, and she did better each time. We're very proud of you, Molly Girl!

A note from Molly's Mom:

Like all border collies, adolescents in particular, Molly needs all kinds of outlets for her abundant energy. Physical exercise and mental exercise of all kinds make for a happy, tired dog.

So, what better way to get our Miss Molly thinking than to give her a place to record all her exciting experiences, thoughts, and questions as she learns more and more about the Whole Big World around her.

Have fun, Molly! Tell us all about it...
