In looking for a friend for our Gracie, we came across Bo on the Internet at Hudson's Huskies & Malamutes. He was characterized as very gentle with a laid-back disposition, which was exactly what we needed to go up against Miss Dominant herself. Plus he looked pretty stocky at 100 #'s so Gracie could not take total advantage of him! So my husband arrange for use to go meet him and off we went with Gracie, our niece (Bri) and one of her friends (Emily). I fully expected the entire visit to last about 10 minutes, with me sitting in the car crying and Gracie kicking Bo's butt, and then the owner asking us to leave and never come back! Obviously, the opposit happened - Gracie behaved, and seemed to take to Bo - she stood on him and pushed him a bit, showed him her butt and that was about it. Bo never made a sound the entire time. So food was given, paperwork exchanged and we loaded up the car and off we went back to Chattanooga. We had no idea how Bo would be in the car, but after about 15 minutes both dogs and both kids were sound asleep! Bo cuddled the entire time in the back seat of the van with Emily. Bo's profile picture is of him in the van coming home!
Bo was an owner surrender and is part of the bloodlines (we think)from Hudson's Huskies & Malamutes. The owners apparently bought him and a littermate, and turned them outside to live at 6 months of age. Accoridng to Hudson's, the littermate was very mean and abused Bo daily. When we picked him up he had a scrapes on his nose and chin; a chunk out of his tongue; and he stunk to high heaven! He also has a lump on his back which is scar tissue from an injury or kids trying to "ride" him. He was and still is on the submissive side, but not nearly as bad & cowering like he did for the first few days. He was eating Gracie's poo & pee - gross, and just very odd & sad to watch this huge dog be so submissive. He is really coming out of his shell and seems like he knows this is his new home and a safe place for him. He was just neutered when we picked him up; and once we took him to the groomer it took two gallons of shampoo to get him clean!
It's a Bo-Bo-Licious Kind of Day!!

Bo's been evaluated and passed his Doggie Day Care orientation and now gets to go with Gracie. The Trainers keep them seperated at "school" so Bo can make his own friends without Gracie bossing him around. Gracie still bosses the staff around though - if she is let out of her crate first, she'll stand at the play yard door and bark & grunt until the trainer lets Bo out of his crate! Sometimes when we get in the car in the mornings, I don't think he really knows we are going to day care, but he perks up once he hears the Trainer's voices and seems to want to go inside!
