Arrival Story:
Deo is the third dog I adopted. I first adopted Nosha, a female siberian husky, while I was driving tractor trailer in the states. She was a great companion, but was lonely for canine companionship. (Unfortunately, Nosha died in a bear attack a few years ago) I adopted Rahya, a female malamute puppy from the same rescuer about six months later. Rahya was a great companion, but just a little too lively for poor Nosha, who wanted to have some time to herself now and then. Deo was the last dog left over from a litter of pups born in rescue. Nobody wanted him because of his broken and partially missing tail. This was probably a result of a birthing accident. I presume mother nibbled a little more than just the umbillical cord! So, that's how Deo became part of the family. Deo was adopted as a playmate for Rahya. This worked out great. The two pups played together, and let Nosha have some "adult" time, in which she wasn't constantly pestered by puppies. Nosha usually sat up front on a custom seat I made for her (a plank that fit over the passenger seat of the truck, outfitted with bedding and furs), while the two pups romped in the sleeper compartment. I bought a small dog sled which we carried behind the truck's sleeper. In the winter I'd harness up the dogs at the truck stops in the northern states, and we'd go out on snowmachine trails. In summer we'd go for long walks while I waited for freight to be loaded or unloaded.

Bio:
Deo was a mystery breed. The only thing that was known was that his mother was a malamute. As he matured, Deo turned out to be distinctly recognizeable as a german shepherd/malamute. He also became quite large! He only weighs 85 lbs, but is a very tall and lean dog. He's a very good natured dog. He's extremely headstrong and independent, but responds pretty well to training. He knows how to sit, lay down, go in, out, upstairs, downstairs, on command. Still working on the recall! He's a member of my main sled team, and mostly runs in the "wheel" position.... closest to the sled. This guy has also had about $500 worth of dental work. He chipped a big piece out of one of hiss upper canine teeth while mouth wrestling with his skinny buddy Shaman. Since he's such a young guy, I didn't want him to loose such an important tooth, and risk having sinus problems and other difficulties this early in life. So, I took him to the dentist to get a crown. If he ever had reason to growl at anyone, I bet that big, metal fang would look rather menacing!
