Arrival Story: Rysen has an extraordinary tale to tell. She is a 5 to 6 month old puppy who has endured the worst that life has to offer. She was picked up as a stray in Georgia and taken to the county pound. It was there that it was discovered she had been horribly abused. Her right ear had been cut off and almost her entire right side is covered in scars. Needless to say she was absolutely terrified of humans. She was slated to be put down because of her inability to connect with people. Luckily, angels had stepped in and Rysen was swiftly taken to boarding where she started to relax. We discovered that she loved other dogs and needed them as part of her rehabilitation. From there she made her way to Ohio where she experienced a house, good food, dog beds, and toys for the very first time. She was terrified of loud sounds and fast movements. She spent a lot of time hanging out in her crate and other safe places. We have been working on getting her comfortable with movements, sounds, and daily life in a house. She has become bonded to me and is steadily forging a relationship with my husband. She has blossomed in our house but she does have a long way to go. She is crate trained and we are working on housebreaking. She needed to go to a home with at least one dog. She needed other dogs, they are her role models and her confidence builders. She does well with cats and also uses them as confidence builders. She is a typical puppy and loves her chewies. She adores her toys and running around playing with them. She needed a patient, kind, and soft person. She is an amazing dog she just needed the right people to show her the way. As her official family we will give her lots of love and puppy kisses. Rysen means "courageous one" in Gaelic. She has shown courage and determination in starting her new life with us.

Bio: We always said that we wouldn't adopt any of our fosters... then came Rysen. She was actually adopted out once but it did not work out. She spent time with a new and wonderful Echo foster family close to were she was sent to. We are eternally greatfull that they took her in. In the end after several weeks (and apparently a destroyed couch...) it was decided that she would travel to Indiana to stay with another wondefull Echo volunteer (They are everywhere, and everyone of them is amazing!!) who is also a trainer. She was to stay there and get help with her remaining issues. However, after deciding upon the needs/conditions that would have to be met by any possible apdoter, we realized that there was a home that fufilled those needs and met those conditions. Even better she had already spent time there and began her journey to recovery there. Of course i am referring to us :o) So now she is returning home and our current foster Deja (whom is very similar to Rysen problem wise) is going to go on to Indiana. We are very happy at how this has turned out and are ready to get started again on bringing this pup out of her shell again. We are gonna need to stockpile Ritz crackers now!
