Dinner. Or maybe breakfast.
We still won't let him sleep on the bed with us.
Bones. BIG bones.
The kind in his bowl. He eats -well-.
To the local park, lots to smell there.
Charlie is not much for tricks, though he is very obedient and well-behaved.
Charlie was a rescue from the Newf Rescue group out east of us, from the Ohio-Pennsylvania area. We drove to the Ohio-Indiana border from our home in Southern Illinois (No, that's nowhere near Chicago!), and brought this big guy home. Charlie had apparently been crated 24/7 for more than a year, and sitting in his own wastes had done him no good. Six weeks in a vet clinic, a shave that left him with some tail feathers, a mohawk top-knot, and a whole lot of healing scabs, left him still seriously under-weight (about 120 lbs.) and in bad condition. That was about three years ago now, and he's doing SO well! His fur all grew back in, save one spot on his front paw which has refused to heal well. He looks great and now weighs in at a svelte 165 lbs.
Charlie is about typical for Newfoundlands; being as gentle and friendly and loving as an animal can possibly be is par for their course. He is in love with the neighbour's miniature black poodle, Maggie, and barks and moo-s like a big cow whenever he sees her going for walks. He's a riot to have around, and we couldn't ask for a sweeter boy.
Minus-Ten C. Just about right!
