Arrival Story:
I have a disability and doctor felt using a cane was making things worse and suggested I get a service dog to help with stability and balance. Waited 2 years on a six year waiting list for a professionally trained dog but ADA still allows people with physical disabilities to self-train. I scoured the Internet for some guidelines on choosing a rescue or pound dog for this purpose. I went to the SF-SPCA and chose 5 dogs and visited them twice a week for ten weeks and that is how I came to Charlie.

I am a social worker, a Tai Chi instructor and political activist and organizer.
