Arrival Story:
After losing our dog Murphy at age 15 I vowed to never go thru that kind of pain again. A year and a half later circumstances had me driving both my sons home from school at the same time which never happened. On the way home we were near the humane society and I felt drawn to go. I told the boys we were not going to get another dog that we were just going to look at them. I said if I was to get another dog it was going to be a puppy, female, beagle type, short hair. What are the chances of that I thought. Then as we entered the room there was the society worker holding a beagle type puppy. I said its probably a male. Then I found out it was a female. The boys begged me to take her. I was'nt so sure until someone else walked in and said if we were'nt going to take her they would. At that moment I said YES. We brought her home and I told the boys not to tell their Dad until I had a chance to tell him. My youngest son could not contain himself when my husband came home. He he yelled:"we got a dog"!"we got a dog"! Then she became our little girl.

She was so GOOD. She never whined or barked at nite, never chewed anything and just waited quietly for us to return when we would have to leave. She was very very smart and learned quickly. She was housebroken in less than a week with no accidents. She was so perfect. She was always a healthy little girl till the fall of 2004. Her lymphnodes in her neck began to swell. After the vet tried an antibiotic with no change she did a biopsy and it was a cancer, lymphosarcoma. I was told to take her home and just wait. I searched for another vet. This vet did bloodwork and xrays. The cancer was confirmed and the xrays showed no organ involvement. I could take her 5 hours away for chemo and I just was'nt able to do that. The blood test also revealed that she was a diabetic and her sugar was very high. This vet did not try to bring it down. All the while this was transpiring she was on Prednisone for the node swelling. I did not know at the time that Predisone was deadly to a diabetic. A few weeks later she saw a 3rd vet. Before he would treat her he wanted to see the previous xrays. He also did bloodwork and put her in the hospital to bring her sugar down which by this time was so high he had no reading. Due to the time lapses involved it was too late and the predisone had done its horrible destruction and she was in complete kidney failure by Christmas week. She spent Christmas at home still hooked up to her IV and I spent the holidays nursing her round the clock. On Dec 30 the vet removed the IV and she just started to slip away until Jan 2 ,2005 at 11:30 PM we had to take her to the ER and put her to rest. She was a very animated little girl. Very sensitive and emotional. If she did'nt have fur and four legs you'd swear she was human. She was the love of my life and I miss her terribly.
