She was stick think and wondering on and off the highway. In a mere matter of seconds, two cars nearly hit the poor gal and a third one did! The third car however had managed to slow down enough that the hit was not much more than a bump. However then the jerk driving the car just kept going. I was able to slow down and stop by this time. Therefore, I did a u-turn to get on that side of the highway. I tried to get the doggy to wonder over towards me, but she wasn’t too excited to come. She was terrified. I finally got her to come near me by enticing her with cheerios. So she got close to me…but was still cowering a bit. I saw a semi truck heading down the road and I just grabbed her.She had a collar with a phone number on it so I tried the number. No answer. Well now what was I supposed to do. I couldn’t just leave her there could I? NO! So I debated for a while. Trying to decide what to do. I was literally in the middle of NOWHERE! Finally I decided to get her in my car. She was so scared. We drove the five minutes to the nearest town with me petting her and talking as soothing as I could. We stopped at a gas station to ask them if they knew where I could take her. They directed me to a veterinary clinic. So I drove to the clinic and tried to coax her out. She wasn’t a big fan of that either. So I picked her up…dirty and smelly as she was…and carried her inside. So we got inside and I asked the front desk if any of them recognized her. I thought it was a small town so they might. They did not. They had some free samples of food sitting on the counter so I ripped into the bag and started to feed her. During this time I started giving them the information I had such as where I found her and stuff. They told me they will keep her for three days and try to contact her owner. If they cannot reach her then they try to place her with the county animal shelter. I gave them my number and asked them to call me with any information. They have been unable to get ahold of that guy. They have also called the animal shelter and have determined there is not enough room there, so they will have to euphonize her on Friday. Well as I am sure you can guess by now I told them no way! It took a while for her to adjust to our family and get used to being around us and us giving her so much love. At first she always wanted to run off...but after time, training and tears, she learned she was a valued member of our family Forums Motto: Lily howling away & Potter kisses always The Groups I'm In: Crazy Coonhounds!, Nebraska and Iowa Dogs Unite!
