Arrival Story:
On October 17, 2009, one of Harnessed to Hope's foster homes went to pick up Lucy and Desi. Both of them had been rescued from the same puppy mill and had been kept at a kennel for a few weeks. When our volunteers met Lucy, they noticed that she was pregnant, and quite far along. One October 21st, Lucy gave birth to 7 healthy Siberian Husky puppies. Please note: the puppies will not actually leave their foster home for their new homes until they are 3 months old on Jan. 21st, 2010 (and they are healthy and ready to go).You can read about our adoption process by going to our main web site, www.nbrescue.com, and clicking on Adoption Process.

Bio:
Lucy was 30 pounds underweight when she came into foster care. We believe that the man who gave her up to the woman who boarded her at the kennel did not realize that Lucy was pregnant, or he would have kept her so that he could sell the puppies. Because he didn't know Lucy was pregnant, he did not increase the amount of food she was given. Lucy's puppies are very healthy and she is an excellent mother, but she has worms and tested positive for Lyme disease. Lucy could not be treated for the worms until the pups were a bit older. She is now being reated with Panacure, which is safe for the pups. Lucy will need to be treated for Lyme diesease, and spayed once she is healthy. Each of the 7 puppies will need to the usual vet check ups and will need to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated before they are adopted. See photos of the pups the day they were born here!
