Arrival Story:
In the summer of 2007, my then fiance and I had decided to get another dog and we had already put a deposit down on a Rottie puppy that was to be ready to bring home in the early fall. Unfortunately, we received news shortly after the puppy was born that the mother had rolled over on the puppy and killed it. Slightly devastated, but hopeful, we decided that we still wanted to get another dog, so one Sunday we made our way to the local animal shelter. We made our way around the inside cages and headed outside. Looking at the dogs on the outside dog houses, one dog caught both of our eyes. There was one dog, sitting up, half-asleep, and catching himself dozing off. He would adjust his sitting position accordingly so he didn't fall over. After we met him, we decided that he was the one. However, because it was late on a Sunday the shelter was closing, so I went back the next day, paid, and took our new addition home. It's funny how things worked out, but we're so happy to have found Gunner and to have him as part of the family.
Bio:
We don't know much about Gunner's past, but we're pretty sure it was a tough one. He weighed in at about 58 lbs. when we got him and now he weighs about 82 lbs. We found him at the Fairbanks North Star Bourough Animal Shelter, but we're not sure if he had always lived in Fairbanks, Alaska. Currently, we are still in Alaska and he has a brother named Juneau.
