I have solved the mystery of the giant cage and the dog food and the dog treats and the NO DOG!
Today as me and mom were languishing in the heat(100 degrees!)Jake and Luke (and Big and Little's) Granny drove up. And in the back of her car was the biggest puppy ever. Her name is Reese like the peanutbutter cup. She is 7 months old. She is a yellow lab. She still has that soft puppy fur. She is a little bit bigger than I am.
Mom says that her family is on vacation and we are to watch her for a few days. Mom says it is up to me to teach her how to behave herself.
The first thing I did was let her know that I am the boss of the house. What I say goes. The second thing I did was to tell her that this is MY MOM and she better not forget it. The next thing I did was to tell her which bowl had my food in it.
After we got all the business taken care of, we had some fun. We ran all over the house. We played keep away and steal the toy. Mom took us out side for a while but it was really too hot to play or go for a walk outside. But, I still showed Reese all the secret hiding places in the backyard.
Then when dad came home, mom and dad had to go out. One of dad's friends passed over to the people rainbow bridge. Mom and dad had to go to the wake. (Tomorrow they are singing at the funeral. Dad said when he was younger he used to keep weddidng music in his guitar case. Now he carries funeral music.)
When mom and dad left they put Reese in her cage. I stayed on the couch but just as we were ready for puppy dreams, the wind picked up and thunder started booming and lightening struck and we lost all our power. You know I don't mind storms so I am trying to teach Reese to be brave when the storm comes. I would love to have another pup to chase storms with.
Finally mom and dad came home. They said it took them forever to get home. There were all kinds of trees all over the road. It took over an hour for them to get from where they were to home and it usually is only a half an hour away. Mom was worried we were stuck in the house without power and we would be hot but our power came back on. MOm said lots of places still didn't have power. The rain cooled everything down so mom took us out to play and cool down. Reese was a little hesitant to go out in the rain, but I talked her into it.
So that is the mystery. I am having fun with a playdate. I like having her, but I can't wait til she goes home. Mom says she'll try to post some pics tomorrow.

It is summer and that means all the kids are home from school. I spend a lot of time chasing them as they ride their bikes up and down the street.
Last night it was not so hot and all the kids were outside, playing in the field across the street from my house. So I went out to play with them.
The first game we played was Cops and Robbers. Me and this girl, April, were the cops. Well, she was the policewoman and I was the Canine Cop. We chased Taylor and Jake and Michael because they were the robbers. When we caught them, April, pushed them to the ground while I sniffed them for contraband. The only thing I found was a tootsie roll in Michael's pocket.
After we played Cops and Robbers, we played this game called Frisbee. Frisbee is a game where the kids throw these plastic disks in the air and I jump up and catch them and then run away with them. Then, all the kids say: "Lucky's Mom! Lucky stole our Frisbee!" Then my mom comes out and gives all the kids a freezer pop.
Finally, as the evening turned into night, we played Hide and Go Seek. I found everyone and I wasn't even it!
It was a great play date and I can't wait til the kids come outside again today.
Now, on to the mystery.
The Cage is still at our house, not set up. It is a big cage. I think a circus cat could live in it comfortably. I heard mom tell dad they needed to set it up on Thursday night, because Reece will come sometime on Friday. Hmmm. Who is this Reece and why is she coming? It is still a deep mystery, but now that I am a pretend police dog, I plan on getting to the bottom of it and solving the crime.

I am a diary pick today! HOORAY! But I got no notification from Dogster. BOO! Zadie told me! HOORAY! Maybe Zadie should get a job working for Dogster, notifiying Diary Picks, because it looks like HQ has dropped the ball on this. So once again HOORAY for Zadie.
My ear ache is feeling better. Mom says I am most excellent doggie taking my medicine. I hardly ever spit my pills out, because mom gives me a special treat when I swallow it.
Yesterday, we had a strange visit. Jake and Luke's mom came over and brought a dog cage and some dog treats and dog blankets and dog bowls. She brought everything but a dog. What is up with that? Mom did not set the cage up and she put all the other stuff up high. I thought it was most unusual. It is a mystery.
It is really hot hear and our pool is STILL not swimable. Dad says he is working on it. That's ok, me and mom hog the air conditioner and the fans. So we are just cool pups together.
So to recap: Dogster has fleas. Zadie is a hero. I am feeling better. The pool is unswimable. And there is a mystery about this dog cage and supplies but no dog to go with it. I will keep you posted.

This morning I woke up with an ear ache. It was very hurty to touch. I told mom right away, that is how sore it was. I went right up to her and put my sore ear on her knee. I made her pat it so she would know it hurt. And for once, mom got the message right away. She thought I had some ear drops leftover from the last ear ache I had, but she couldn't find it. So we hopped in the car to go to the vet.
But, the vet's office was very crowded. It was so crowded we couldn't even find a parking place and we had to park at the supermarket across the street. When we went in there were soo many doggies waiting and the lady told her it would be close to a two and a half hour wait. So mom decided we should go home and look harder for my old ear medicine.
Our vet has evening hours so me and mom got back in the car this evening to get my ear fixed. There were 7 doggies ahead of me, but mom said we would wait. There was another Golden who look almost like me, except it was a boy and he didn't have a purple tongue. There was a Brown dog that looked like mom's friend Copper, except that his ears and tail were not as long. There was a dog that looked just like that movie star dog, Benji. And guess what his name was-BENJI! (Maybe it WAS Benji).
Then this Beagle pup came in and she had the nerve to beg my mom to pet her. I couldn't believe it. "Hey Beagle Dog, that's my mom!" I jumped right on mom's lap. And then a CAT came in! It was in a carrier but it meowed and meowed and all of us doggies perked our ears up and tried to find it.
Finally, they called my name. We followed the man to a little room in the back. I was fine until the man shut the door. Didn't he read on my chart that I am claustrophobic? I hate to have the doors closed. It really worries me. I have to make mom and dad open all the doors in our house. So I started panicking when the orderly shut the door and mom had to calm me down.
It wasn't too long after that that the doctor finally came. It was my good friend. She remembered me from last time. She cleaned out my ear. She gave me a shot. And then she gave mom some drops and some antibiotics. And we were done. Goodbye doctor! Goodbye nice ladies behind the counter! Boo on you Mr. Door Shutting Orderly I will not say goodbye to you. Good bye other doggies.
In the car we went and back home where mom gave me many treaties for being the best doggie at the vets. Now I am suddenly very, very, very sleepy. Mom says it's because of the shot.

Everyone knows I am a daddy's girl. Sure, lately I've been cuddling up to mom, but only so I could get her to buy dad some presents for his special Father's Day Celebration.
I got dad a nice beard trimmer so his face is not hot in the summer weather. I know when I get a haircut I always feel better. (Although I don't always look nice cause dad gives me a haircut himself. He learned how to do it on the interwebs!)I also got dad some pool stuff like cholrine tablets and a vacuum. Don't worry pups, it is a vacuum for the pool and it doesn't make noise or try to eat my treats or my extra fur. It stays outside. Plus we got steps for the pool. That was my problem, I like to swim, but I had trouble using a ladder to get in and out of the pool. Dad has been working hard getting the pool swimable.
For Father's day dinner we had tuna noodle cassarolle. Dad cooked it himself because mom is not feeling so good. She's got some kind of infection in her lungs and it feels like she is getting squished by a steamroller every time she breathes. Besides mom's tuna cassarolle is nothing special. Dad makes delicious TNC. His secret ingriedent is yellacheese. (I hear you can make good cauliflower with yellacheese as well).
So Happy Father's Day to all you dads of pups. We pups love hanging around with our dads any day of the year. HOORAY for DADS!

Finally! I got to go on a big, giant car ride after waiting for almost two days. Car rides are my favorite and every time I see mom or dad with car keys I grab a toy and head for the car. But mom and dad don't take me on rides every day because they are, of course, mean.
But, yesterday I got to go on a ride. First me and mom took dad to work. That is a nice ride. I got to see people walking and riding bikes and waiting for the bus. Mom and dad are trying to get me not to bark at people I see on the side of the road, but I think it's funny cause they don't know where I am as we drive past and I bark out the window.
After we dropped off dad, me and mom ran some errands. First we went to my favorite store, the pharmacy. I got to say hello to many of my friends but mom wouldn't let me buy anything. Next we went to Kmart. I had to stay and guard the car. Good thing no one tried to mess with our car. (ok I don't know that much about cars, but I think mom told me to guard the car to make me feel good. I mean who wants a 7 year old car with over 100,000 miles on it and the gages don't work and you have to take the door off to roll the windows up. And the outside looks like it was involved in a hit and run and keyed up. But on the plus side, it smells like dog.)
After we went to Kmart, we went to the gas station and I helped mom pump gas. That was kind of boring. I did get worried when I couldn't see mom cause she went to that little house to pay the man. But mom came back safe and sound and poorer.
Then we went to the library. Once again I was not allowed to go in. Even though many pups have helped children learn to read, our library does not allow dogs.
Then we went home and mom dropped me off. She told me to take a nap because she still had more places to go to. I assume these places were not dog friendly since I couldn't go. Why is mom going places that are not dog friendly?
When mom came back, I got to go on another car ride, It was time to pick up dad. But, there was an accident on the interstate so all the cars that would have been on the interstate were driving on my road. So it took us a long, long time to get to dad's office. And then, he wasn't even ready yet! So me and mom went for a walk all around the outside of his office building. There were lots of cars and some picnic tables and lots of ciggerette butts. And even though I didn't seem them I knew I was not the only dog to walk around dad's office building.
Finally, dad came out of the building and he has a friend with her. A nice lady who has doggies of her own. I wanted to sit with her but, mom and me sat in the back seat. I got to see a new place. Dad's friend lives right in the city so I got to go into the see all the hustle and bustle of the city. Then when dad's friend left we headed home.
But, first we went to get some take out food. I got a hushpuppy. Then we went to the GoMart to get lottery tickets.(Not a Winner) and then we went to the post office. I like the mailman, he gives me treats, but he was not there. And finally we made it home.
What a Big Honking Car Ride.

Daddy is home from all of his travels. Actually, he has been back since Wednesday night but he has been on the computer updating all of his stuff forever. Finally I get to see what all of my pup pals are up to.
I guess everyone is getting ready for summer. I heard mom and dad talking and they hope to get the pool ready this weekend. I will help because I like to hang out in the backyard and I like to swim in the pool. Mom was looking at those nice doggie rafts, but she isn't going to pay money for a raft for me that cost more than all the other pool rafts we have combined.
I know you all are surprised that we haven't got the pool ready yet. But with dad out of town for two weeks and mom looking for a job all the time, we are running a bit behind.
Yes, I know I reported that mom got a new job. They told her she was hired and they gave her a choice of positions to take. Then they told her to wait for them to call her so she could get processed in. Well, they haven't called yet.
And to make mom even more crazy about it, we just found out that our phone is out of order! When mom tried to make a call she heard The Southern Gospel Radio Hour being broadcast out of our telephone. Did Jesus call?
We hardly ever get phone calls anyway so the last time mom can remember using the phone was on Monday so she isnt' sure how long the phone has been out of order. She immediately called the new job and gave them her cell number. (yes, mom has a secret cell phone. Don't tell anyone).
Then she called the phone company. They said it might be next Wednesday before the phone is fixed. Meanwhile they tried to sell her everything under the sun. Mom, very politely, told the phone company that if her landline isn't working and it would be a week before it gets fixed why would she invest in any other products. The last time the landline didn't work, they asked mom to check the phone box herself. Mom said if she wanted to be a telephone repair person she would apply for a job as a telephone repair person.
I think mom better start working soon or she is going to go crazy and take the phone company with her.
well that's about all the news this week. Hope everyone is having a good summer so far!

My dad has been gone for almost a week. Well, he went from Wednesday to Saturday, came home late Saturday and then left again on Monday. Mom says he will be home sometime tomorrow. But, he left me and mom home alone. So we have been having a girl's week.
I know I say I have the meanest mom in the world, but I may have to change the name of my diary to meanest dad in the world because one of the trips he took was to North Carolina to a farm. And he did not take me. He said there were dogs who lived there so I wasn't invited.
So me and mom are having fun with a girl's week. That means cookie dough and no bake cookies and pepperoni rolls. Of course it also meant taking a bath, but now my fur is all fluffy. Oh and car rides and going on long walks and visiting neighbors and sitting out on the porch watching the stars and just doing girly stuff. I think mom is going crazy.
She got a new job and she is waiting for them to call her with a starting date. she doesn't know what the hold up is but she is going crazy with boredom. Hey mom! I could always use a belly rub!

Ok, I know us pups can see (or maybe smell) into other dimensions or planes of existence but most humans are skeptical at worst and unobservent at best.
But yesterday mom said she had a truly psychic experience.
There has been a piece of mail that mom and dad have been waiting for. They check the mail everyday, but this mail has not come. Mom sort of figured that it got slowed up because of Memorial Day when the mail didn't run, so yesterday she was really expecting to see it in the mailbox. And it wasn't there.
Mom was ready to go in to call the sender of said mail when she just got this weird, strange feeling. And she heard someone say:"Check in Dave's mailbox." She turned and no one was there, but she felt compelled, overwhelmed, possessed to go and check in Dave's mailbox.[Dave is our neighbor who had a stroke and moved to a nursing home. His house is empty and he doesn't/shouldn't get mail delivery.]
Mom looked in Dave's mailbox. Not only was the expected item in the mailbox, there was all kinds of mail for mom and dad in there. Most of it was junk, but there were a few bills and some personal items as well. Postmarked from April!
Mom is still in shock from having a real psychic experience, but I'm thinking maybe she should be thinking about how the mail has been misdelivered since April.(Not all the time, we still get mail to our house. So mom and dad couldn't say,"Gee we haven't gotten mail since April" because we do get mail.) Mom doesn't want to say anything bad about the post office because we have a lot of family members who work for the post office and she understands their budget problems have to do with funding their retirement benefits. But still this kind of service should be pointed out, don't you think?
But right now mom is more interested in trying to get a that psychic voice back to give her some good lotto numbers.
Fade out to the twilight zone theme.

I often accompany mom and dad when they go out and about running errands and such and the other day I hopped at the chance to go to the drug store with mom.
Most of the time when we run errands I stay and guard the car. I mean I wouldn't want dad's collection of fast food wrappers to get stolen, but, I am welcome in the drug store.
So me and mom went into the drug store. I said hello to my favorite cashiers and to all the techs and to the pharmacist. Mom thought she was just picking up but there were some things not ready yet so we had to hang around.
There was a little girl waiting for meds as well so we had a good time playing together. But then she had to go home. One of the workers gave me a treat! How Excellent! Then they gave me my own personal bag with treats inside. Mom and the worker were trying to get me to carry it and I probably would have if I had not suddenly heard the most horrible, terrifying, scariest noise a pup could hear.
THE VACUUM CLEANER!
Yes someone at the store was running a vacuum cleaner and not a little house sweeper like we have(I know I could take that one and kick it's butt to sweeperland). NO! This was a BIG, GIANT, INDUSTRIAL vacuum cleaner! I just got up and left my bag of treats and headed to the front of the store. Let's go mom. I think dad's fast food wrappers are in danger.
Fortunately mom was right behind me(she was on the other end of the leash) and the lady who gave me the treats was right behind her with my treat bag (and mom's prescriptions, too).
Oh and dad's fast food wrappers are all safe and sound(except for that one I ate on the way home).
