Arrival Story: Kikka is a two and a half year old rescue
from "Serendipity German Shepherd Rescue", in Missouri, who we found
through Pet Finder. At that time he was part of an undernourished litter
of puppies, weighing only 19 pounds at four months of age. He has been in
a number of training classes and he earned his AKC "Canine Good Citizen"
certification earlier this year, when he was just not quite two years
old! After that I began training him for Therapy Dog work. In August he
passed the rigorous test to become a certified Therapy Dog, and we
volunteer with the therapy group "Pets for Life" in Kansas City. He is
fabulous at this "job", and he really brightens the day for all of the
people with whom he comes in contact with! He is perfectly suited for the
"job" I have picked for him, as he's very gentle and sensitive, aside
from being so very smart and beautiful.
-------
Kikka has come a long way since his rescue. He's wonderful ambassador
for his breed, since we also take him out in public quite a bit, and
take him traveling with us (which includes long car rides and hotel
stays). He's always a perfect gentleman and he makes me so proud! He's
is a wonderful and kind soul, and we got so lucky when we found him and
were able to bring him into our lives. I love him so much, and want the
rest of the world to see how beautiful and fine he is. Not because doing
so elevates me, but because it elevates him, which he so richly
deserves. Kikka gives me so much just by being here with me, and being
my partner and friend. Sharing him with others is the least I could do
in return.
--------
Kikka is a fabulous dog - I've never had better, in life filled with
dogs (most of them Shepherds and Shepherd crosses), all of them
wonderful in their own ways. This one though, this incredible dog I
named Kikka, is the kindest and gentlest soul I have ever found in a
dog. Even though he is a "big and imposing" German Shepherd I had every
confidence this summer to allow a homeless man reach through my car
window, to pat him upon his sleek head, to give that man some brief
canine contact before our light changed and we had to move on. If I had
the power to see Kikka's aura I'm sure it would be a bright and soft
balloon of gold, that followed him in everything he does.
