Birthday: September 3rd 2007 Likes: Our attention Pet-Peeves: Rain. You should see her face when I open the door and she realizes it's not going to be fun to go out - lol! Favorite Toy: Her fox! Favorite Food: Raw meat Favorite Walk: In the parks where she can be off leash and just be a dog Best Tricks: Wave bye-bye, Say Please and Say Thank You Arrival Story: She was rescued from a neglectful situation. She was starving, yet feeding 8 puppies. She was covered with fleas and had flea dermatitis, had lost most of her hair and looked like she had mange, bless her heart!
But her rescuer took her under her wing and restored her to vibrant health! We got her after she had been in rescue for appx 6 weeks. She arrived on Labor Day. She is a robust and muscular 50 pounds and one of the sweetest tempered dogs I've ever encountered :) The Groups I'm In: Bully Ed 101, FANCYPANTS CAFE, american pit bull terrier lovers, Arkansas Playmates, Bullies are Good Dogs, Cesar's Dogster Pack, MY PITBULL, P*I*F (Paw it Forward), Pit Bull Lovers!!!, Responsible Pit Bull owners, Trupanion Pet Insurance Clubhouse, ~~~*♥Dog Park USA♥*~~~ I've Been On Dogster Since:
Gave Sox a shower today instead of a bath. She wasn't thrilled about going into the shower stall but went willingly, thank God :)
Of course, now that's it springtime I can also give her a bath outside with the hose - that could be quite fun (winks and imagines bathing suits, grass, lovely sunshine, and a romping happy dog).
I feed Sox raw and I feed her in her crate. A few days ago, she didn't eat all of her food and was relaxing on the couch. For some reason, both cats came out of the bedroom and were sitting in the dining room. Sox looked at them, looked at her food, got down off the couch, went over to her crate and SHUT THE DOOR!! Then she got back up on the couch. I have never laughed so hard!
I've given Sox a bath in our bathtub 3 times since I've had her and every
time I just lifted her in. I noticed that she would put her tail between her
legs, so I would always make it a point to smoothe her tail back out to it's
normal position to help change her emotions.
Since she seems to be feeling more comfortable with me now, I decided to try
something different today.
I put a towel in the bottom of the tub, called Sox into the bathroom and
encouraged her to put her front feet on the side of the tub. When she did, I
praised her and gave her butt scritchies (her favorite treat - lol!). Then I
got in the tub and encouraged her to come in too but she was a little
worried about jumping in. So I got back out and when she had her front feet
on the side, I put my arms around her backside and verbally encouraged her
to get in. It seems that that was all she needed because she hopped in.
Party and Praise Time!!
I "paid" her richly for that and then asked her to get out. She happily
hopped out and I paid her for that. We did that a few more times. She was
smiling and happy and enjoying those scritchies. Then we came back up front
for a while. Repeated this a couple more times, then I had her stay so I
could bathe her. I noticed that this time she didn't have her tail between
her legs - cool, huh?
