Arrival Story:
My husband was driving to work one day and his job was in a warehouse right near the desert. People used to drop poor dogs off out there all the time. He was driving down a dirt road and passed this black dog who had found an old rag and was curled up on the only sign of human habitation she could find. He passed her by, saying "I don't need or want another dog!" to himself but there was something about the look in her eyes that he couldn't forget. He backed up his car, opened the passenger door and said, "Do you want to come with me?" She immediately jumped up, limped to car and jumped in. My husband remained her god from then on... She always knew, no matter the hour when he was coming home and she waited for him or barked so I knew about 15 min before he would arrive.

Bio:
When we first got Annie, she had been so abused and kicked (we thought because her hips were bruised and sore and she was skin and bones.) We estimated (and the vet concurred) that she was about 1 1/2 or 2 years old. She was very sweet and loving but was terrified of humans which you could tell was not of her nature. She hung out mostly with our other dog Andrew. Her fear extended to hands, you could scratch and pet her but as soon as your hands were still or just rested on her head, she would wiggle away or become very uncomfortable. She turned out to be an amazing dog, smart and very tolerant of us and her doggie family. When we rescued another dog, a puppie we named Yogi, she sat about raising him up right. She never played with toys and disapproved of Yogi doing the same. She lived to the ripe old age of 19 years but her bad hips finally gave out and she told us it was time to go. That morning of the fateful day, she just couldn't get up anymore and had wet herself which horrified her as she was always so good and never had an accident before. She was always afraid of riding in the car because of fear that we would leave her somewhere but that morning when we picked her up to take her to the vet, she was very calm. We stayed with her when she got her last shot and she never struggled but died very peaceably. We loved her dearly and will always miss her...
