Arrival Story:
Our beloved Golden Retriever of 13 years had passed away then previous fall and then the following spring, our cat who had been with us for 11 years passed. The home felt empty, our son was moving home for 4 months, before heading off to the Marines. We found her at a small breeder a couple hours aways from our home. She was the largest female and now at 14 months she weighs a very lean 90+ pounds. She was the last of the litter of 9 pups. I was worried. No worries needed, she's smart, faithful, naturally protective, good at judging human character, and in good health. The last chosen has become an all star. My son an I spent the summer raising her, she is wonderful comfort and connection to my son, who is off on his 5 year adventure.

My Week

Well I've had a great week, the best was the first part though. Mom found a new 1400 acre off leash dog park. We went everyday. It was a blast running ahead of mom, sniffing around. Although every thirty paces I have to look back and check on mom. And I don't know how she does it, but sometimes she catches up with me, and passes me by, must be those mesmerizing smells distracting me. I met lots of dogs and had a great time greeting them and getting to know them, more interesting smells. I'm not sure I like puppies right now though. They have no decorum, you go up and greet them, following doggie etiquette, and what do they do? They jump all over you. I'll put up with it for a little bit, but after while it's rather annoying. Mom says I used to act like that, but I don't believe her. The first time I had to jump up on mom, a couple of times to tell I was ready to go and getting a little peeved. Now she knows to pay attention, and says lets go if I start looking peeved, and we resume our wonderful explorations. I got lots of treats as mom made me practice recalls, stops and waits in a large distracting space. Not sure why I need to do this. Anyways mom's fixing up her old mountain bike so I can run along side of her. There ton's of hard packed dirt trails, that will be easy my paws.
This weekend was a bummer though. Saturday mom and dad were working in the yard. They took me for several rides, and I was kept busy running back and forth keeping an eye on them. After working hard all day keeping track of them, I patiently waited and waited and waited. 8PM came around. Do you know what they did? They built a fire in the fire pit, sat in their chairs sipping a glass of wine. After all my work and patience, this is my reward? Laying down, relaxing, and listening to them talk and talk. Well, I let them know about it. That I was displeased about not going to my new dog park. I didn't care that it was dark. I have good eyes. It's not my fault that they don't. Every minute to 5 minutes, I'd start whining. Humph I still didn't get my way. They just moved my blankie between them, and told me to lie down. Well I finally gave up, and took a well earned nap. Next weekend, I'll figure out a way to make sure we go.
