Squeak passed on May 25, 2010. She fought long and hard but in the end the meds just weren't working. We had to let her go. The thrombocytopenia was a reaction to a vaccine. They couldn't tell me which one, but she'd had all of them before. Please use blood titers in place of yearly vaccinations. It is so much safer for the dog and even though it's a little more expensive, it is worth it if you can save their lives. Don't blindly follow what your veterinarian tells you to do. Do your research and you could save your fur babie's life.

I used to hate going to the V-E-T.
Last week, my gums started bleeding, and they just wouldn't stop! Then, my whole belly got covered with bruises. My Mommy rushed me to the V-E-T, where they gave me shots and took more blood.
Then we went for a car ride and I was at another V-E-T. I had to stay at this place overnight. I was still bleeding, but no one could tell me what was wrong with me! They said they suspected rat poison, but I know I didn't eat any of that stuff! After some of the blood work came back, they decided it wasn't rat poison, but Von Willebrand's Disease. Well I stayed there overnight. It was okay. The cats teased me. But I slept all night and felt fine except for all of the blood.
In the morning, though, after the V-E-Ts switched, I started feeling really really sick.
Mommy came to get me, but I just felt so sick and tired that I couldn't even tell her hello properly. Before I knew it, I was in the car again. I slept most of the way, so I couldn't tell you where we were going. All I know is that I did not feel good AT ALL.
We pulled up to a building with a sign: Oakland Veterinary Referral Services, Bloomfield Hills, MI. Oh no, another V-E-T.
I had to be carrie dinside because I was just too tired to walk.
Mommy had to leave me there. All of the people there were so nice to me and fed me that I started to not hate the V-E-Ts. It helped that I was starting to feel alot better!
I had something called Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia. They took lots of blood and ran lots of tests and made me take lots of medicine. But all of that was okay once I saw my Auntie! And then Mommy came back with Grandma to get me! I was well enough to come home! i had been there for four days. I'd started to like that place and all those people, but I was VERY glad to be going back home to my sister and my Daddy.
So I have been home for a day now and I am on the mend! I still have to take lots of pills for a while, but hopefully not forever!

Mommy says I'm a fighter. I love her for taking me to OVRS. I wasn't sure how long I was going to make it in the back seat.

But now everything is okay and I have a TON of sleep to catch up on!!!!!!

The Spikeball

This spikeball is scary. It chases me in a huge bubble. I don't like it. And when I try to make friends, they tell me "no" and "stay back, Squeak." It's okay, I don't like it anyway. Maybe it'll stick itself with it's spines and go away.
