Happy Adoption Day!!

1 Year ago today, we visited a breeder to look at one last Yorkie puppy she had left. She was going to keep the puppy for herself for breeding because she was her favorite puppy of the litter, but was willing to let us take a look at her. We had been to look at 3 or 4 other litters of puppies elsewhere, but none of them had felt right. When she brought the puppy out to us, I knew I had to have her!!!! We spent about 20 minutes with the puppy, playing with her and checking out the status of her health, etc etc etc. DH has no experience with picking out puppies and left the decision up to me, but he thought she was awfully cute.

I knew I couldn't go home without her, and told the breeder that we'd like to take her home. I got all choked up and started crying but I was just so happy!

Happy Birthday to me!

Well, I'm 1 year old! I'm such a big girl! My mommy and daddy took me to Petsmart for my birthday. They let me pick out 2 toys and a treat. I got a mini sized soft frisbee, which I love. I picked out my second toy from a clearance rack, a sqeaky carrot! I'm a spoiled girl and really cashed in on the treat... I picked out a TUB, yes, a TUB of greenies! Daddy almost said no, but Mom insisted I get what I want. I'm a lucky girl!

Visiting Grandma and Grandpa

Bailey is in Georgetown, Texas right now, visiting her Grandma and Grandpa (and Aunts Morgan and Madison) for 10 Days.

According to reports, Bailey doesn't know that Mom and Dad are gone- she's too excited by everything new! Having a fenced in yard where she can stay outside for long periods at a time, watching the squirrels, etc etc.

Her favorite thing about visiting is having Morgan and Madison around. Morgan pretty much ignores her, but Madison... that's another story. When Bailey comes around and tries to play, Maddy just buries her head in the nearest thing and pretends she isn't there. We always think Maddy is saying "Go to a happy place, go to a happy place..." It probably doesn't work.

I think we miss Bailey more than she misses us, but we're sure she'll be glad to see us. Only 6 days left!

Bailey's first Haircut!

Bailey's hair was just getting out of control. Her new steel grey hair is growing in pretty silky, and the black hair growing out is a little more wooly. It tangled a lot, and I didn't have the time to maintain it... soo.... it was time for her first haircut!

Because Yorkies require such frequent grooming, I want to learn how to do trims myself, so I don't have to spend so much money on grooming! I gave it my best shot, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. I didn't get very brave, I didn't cut a whole lot off, but I didn't want to get too carried away! (You can always cut more off, but you can't add it back on!)

Bailey hated every second of it.. (NO Mom, my precious hair!!!) But by the end, she was at least holding still and accepting the clippers, and she was rewarded at the end.

The results of her first haircut are now the first picture on her page, so you can admire my handywork.

All I want for Christmas.. er.. Summer is my two front teeth

Bailey has started to lose her teeth! 2 days ago she lost her first tooth, her right-front-top tooth! ... No where to be found though! Yesterday, she lost two more! Her other front tooth, plus one on the bottom!

She looks so cute without those two front teeth! We had a thunderstorm roll through Central Oklahoma yesterday evening, and Bailey was wild and excited during the storm... That's my girl! She kept running to the windows to look out and smell the rain (we had the windows open.) I always knew she was a meteorologist just like her mom!

Bailey must sure hate the Vet!

Bailey loves paper of any kind.. She'll find random scraps of paper anywhere in the house and then prance around with it for a while, before deciding to shred it.

Over the weekend, I noticed Bailey prance around the corner with a postcard-shaped piece of paper. I followed her around the corner to see what she had, and was in the process of shredding.

I took it away from her, and it was a postcard from the vet saying that Bailey was due for a vaccination! lol She had dug through the mail, and selected that ONE piece of mail to shred... She's a little to smart, I think!

She finally gave in to the brush...

Being that she IS a Yorkie, I prepared Bailey by telling her that Yorkies need constant grooming and that she might as well get used to it while she's young.

Well, she never quite listened to me, and fought every stroke when I brush her. All she wanted to do was bite the brush and get away. It was getting to be such a struggle every time that I just gave up. Her hair kept getting worse and worse. (I bet you can tell by some of her pictures!) Finally, it got really bad- at least 50% of her hair was completely matted, making each attempt at brushing worse, because it wasn't a nice brush with the comb- it was trying to gently pull out matts while she's squirming... Yeah right, that's not going to be gentle! I was about to make an appointment at a groomer to just (gasp) cut her hair off, when I decided to give it one last try, on Sunday night.

The struggle started as usual, but in the "I mean buiness" tone, yelled "BAILEY, QUIT!" She immediately settled down, and proceeded to lay in my lap for 40 minutes while I combed out all of her matts!!!

She now has a beautiful, soft coat, and it's nice to be able to feel her body underneath all the fur instead of just matted hair! We can see little steps every day of how she's turning into a grown up, well behaved pup. :)

Bailey's a big girl!

Bailey will turn 4 months old on Sunday, February 27. We went to the vet yesterday for her Rabies shot, and she is now 2.7 pounds!! Hungry Hippo!!

She is doing very well. We haven't had any seizures since those two that she had, so I can say with 80% confidence that the seizures were caused by hypoglycemia. I'm going to watch her carefully these next few days to see if she reacts to the shot, then we might be able to rule them out!

She's growing like a weed, and her hair is too. She really doesn't enjoy being brushed, so we need to work at that every day, or her hair will start to mat waay to easily.

2 Weeks Seizure Free!

Today is a great milestone for little Bailey- this evening will mark 2 weeks since her last seizure! The 2 seizures she's had so far were a week and a half apart, so she has at least now outlasted the time elapsed between the first! We are so happy for our little girl.

She is gaining weight and getting sassier by the day. She has a new game where she just loves to dunk her paws in her water bowl. She'll sit there and bat at the water, creating a huge mess! She will even stand with her front paws in the bowl and continue to paw.

It was cute the first time she did it, but then it just got annoying having to mop up water every day! Last night I told her "NO" while she was in the middle of playing. She looked up at me, growled playfully, barked, then pranced off. What a sass.

Bailey's first snow

We got a very unexpected inch and a half of snow in Oklahoma today! I was excited to get Bailey out in the snow to play around. I was a little let down.. haha She just dealt with it, did her business and came back in!

I think she got too cold to really play- maybe next winter she'll be older and frisky enough. The second time she went out in the snow, she dug her nose in and started eating it! I took some pictures (none of them very good) but I'll try to get one posted.
