Arrival Story:
Fred was in a kill shelter in Indiana where a young volunteer recognized his potential - but with his maladies, he was to be euthanized anyway. He was transported to Minnesota to be safe in a rescue/foster home. .. He came to us with his ribs on one side and his spirit broken. His body full of open sores, healed and re-opened scabs and a bad case of both "fear aggression" and "separation anxiety" .. Yet with patience, training and love, Fred has blossomed into THE coolest boy. .. Fred listens to his kids when they need to spout about what a jerk mom can be. .. He keeps a watchful eye over a boy as he sleeps. .. He "bellied up" and pee'd when he saw his favorite girl - until she taught him confidence ... He kisses away mom's tears when she cries over other dogs who can't be saved. .. Fred has taught us about forgiveness, acceptance, true, unconditional love and second chances. .. Fred has accepted each of us -- imperfections, sheepdogs and all! .. We were only supposed to foster Fred for one week for an All-Breed Rescue. ... he's been here for years now .. Isn't it cool how LOVE works?

Fred, you will be forever sorely missed. Our only hope is that we brought you as much joy, laughter and companionship as you brought us. Sophie and Ty miss the "real" dog in the house and Mom misses her snuggle buddy. It's a lonely ol' night without you for her to snuggle. You will always be "the best boy". We love and miss you, buddy!! Hoping that you have endless treats to catch mid-air in heaven - stuffies to shake and de-stuff in seconds flat - sheepdogs to grimace at - an ol' lady to snuggle with, and a couple of children (who left this earth to soon too) and need a friend like you to play with -- until we meet again. ~20 April 2009 ~ 4-20 ... you would have to leave us then, silly boy. xo xo xo
