Furry Feats

Haircuts

Sometimes I get free haircuts. They seem to be at will, although I've noticed a pattern. Yes, dogs have a scientific side and can notice patterns. There's a pattern that goes with my Mom picking up a pair of scissors and saying something like, "Come here, Cutie!" That's how my new look usually starts.

Before the scissors get involved, I'm usually outside. And occassionally I pick up knick knacks from the bushes and weeds. Small green burrs shaped like seeds, big fluffy burrs (those hold on really well), and other various burrs - they are all beautiful and spice up my look when I wear them in my furr. Mom pulls them out. She's gentle, but what's she got against a dog wearing a little bling? The ugly part is that it's the ones that get in my longer furr that won't come out. I don't have a lot of long furr, but it tends to grow on top of my ears and on my tail. Two months ago I got an ear trim. Today it was the tail. I have to be honest, it isn't pretty. And my furr doesn't grow back so fast.

But there you have it. I like the lady anyway, and I can do without the burrs.

Two Words

I have two words to woof to you. DOG. PARK. Holy Fun Time Batman, that's good stuff.

Today we slept in until 6am. That takes patience for a dog like me, waiting to go to a dog park for the first time. This Saturday was a very special day for me and the peeps had to sleep until the sun was almost up!

There was a bumpy road that led to lots of doggood grassy, hilly, open-ness. While I was in the car I yelled at another dog in her car. Mom scowled at me. WHAT? But the other dog turned out to be pretty cool when I met her nose to nose in the parking lot.

Then, we stepped into heaven. There were other dogs and people and some of us walked together and played and I ran and ran and ran.

Now we are back at home and my tummy is filled with breakfast (Yum-mie, Honest Kitchen goodness) and I am going to nap for a while. Happy Saturday, everyone!

So, my mom started making all these sneezy coughing sounds and carrying around a box of tissues. At first it was fun to have her home, but she isn't going many places other than home. Ho-hum. This morning she did take me to the park when it was quiet and we walked for a while, but usually she runs and plays and today she just kind of walked around and moaned occassionaly. Give me back my Mamma!

By George, I Think I'm Getting It!

Since I was getting so excited at the clicking and doing every thing I could think of the get the clicks, my Mom went back to step one. She wanted me to understand the word with the action. Don't ask me why! The clicks and treats seem so much more important!!

Anywho, we started again with "Sit". That's one I know. We did sit for days! After that I got to lay down on my belly and once I got that down my Mom told me the word for that is "Down". Cool! Now I can sit when she says it and down when she says that and there is no confusion.

Well, Shucks! If I had known it was like that I would have done it from the start. Gotta be clear Momma!!

Clickity-click-click!

A nice lady came over yesterday afternoon and talked to Mom and Dad for a long time. She pet me and talked to me, too. Then she would ask me to do things and when I did them the right way I heard a "click"! and she gave me a treat! Holy Salmon Treats, Batman, it's an excellent way to spend an afternoon! I showed her I could "sit", "down", and even roll over. Mom was impressed with that one.

Mostly though I think Mom and Dad want to know that I will come back when called. I will always come back, but sometimes I have to chase a squirrel or two first. For some reason that worries them. We have to come to an agreement on that one because until we do, it's the leash for me. Why don't they chase the squirrel with me??

Here's the Yogi Owen, signing off. Have a woofy day!

Uh oh! "Vacation"

My people ran off to who-knows-where and put me in a kennel. They took me in and I stepped outside to check out what was going on with Crazy Maggie, the shaggy girl next door, and when I came back in they were gone! Sheesh! At least the people at the kennel here like me and have been feeding me and they take me out to play with other dogs here. That's kind of fun. They said my mom has called three times in two days, so maybe she misses me. But how many days is three and when does that mean I go home again?? If someone can break me out, I'm cell number 4. I don't have keys to my house though. What's a dog to do?

Yesterday we were walking along the edge of some woods and I poked my head in the shrubs. Then I proudly presented my Mom with a pre-dead squirrel from behind those shrubs! She was speachless, but she managed to make some strange noises. It sure would have been fun to have chased it down, but this was still pretty fun. Just wanted to share. :)

Today started at 6am with a walk around the hood. It was an ok walk, but my mom is trying to show me how not to pull, and I am trying to show her it's more fun to pull. It was a long slow walk - she stops every time I pull! No fun. We finally got into a groove and made it around for a nice wake up. Now I am waiting for my evening visit to the park.
