Arrival Story:
I never thought I would become the owner of a special needs pet, but when I saw his picture on the Petfinder site, for some reason I just had to go see him (even if I didn't have plans of adopting a puppy at the time.) At first I was daunted by the face that he was a deaf/partially blind double merle puppy, but the rescue owners seemed so thrilled to find someone interested in looking at him. I stood in the kennel waiting for him to come out, wondering if the poor thing would even be able to see me. But as soon as they opened the door Angel (then Silas) zipped around the room with his butt wagging, greeting every person there as though it was his long lost best friend. It was love at first sight. : ) You would never have even known that he couldn't hear or see any of the people that were there. I brought him home a week later, and I can honestly say I haven't had any more difficulty with a deaf dog than anyone would with a highly energetic hearing dog. I'm glad I gave him a new chance on life because he is the best puppy I have ever had. : )

Just wanted to report that Angel is continuing to heal up very well. :) His ear is completely healing back up with no deformities at all. There are a few bald patches left from the burns, but the fur will grow back slowly as the skin completely heals. I'm just relieved that he is doing so well. :)

Started school, and its kicking my butt! But I'm happy to be going for something I love. Its definitely taking a while for me and Angel to get adjusted...the first few days when I got home Angel would not leave my lap. But he's starting to relax (not that I mind the cuddles at all!)

It's definitely apparent that you've lived up to your name.

We've definitely been through the ringer together with your burns, and at your vet check-up yesterday the vet said that you were looking marvelous. :) She even said that it looked like I took very good care of you. I think I just do what ever any other dog owner would do, I owe it to you. I would never dream of letting you down for a second, even if that means putting on a bathing suit twice a day to give you a bath that you hate so much and feeding you 5 jars of peanut butter with all your pills.

Sadly, though, you came up positive for lyme exposure with your heartworm test. :( That really makes me sad, but we're all set up to get your antibodies checked, and the vet said you were in really good condition so if you do have it then hopefully we've caught it early. But at least now you are on safe heartworm preventative and that makes me feel TONS better. Now we just have to go clothes shopping for some shirts to protect your skin now that the weather is gorgeous and we'll be outside lots.

Man, life has been topsy turvey for lately, at least for me, and with your health probably for you too. Every time I thought I had life all figured out it just kept throwing more and more curve balls, and then eventually bullets. I went from making plans for us to move to Cali with my bf to hunting for a new apartment just for us here. I feel bad I don't seem to have as much time for you, between dealing with work crisis, apartment hunting, furniture hunting, managing finances, trying to get stuff set up to maybe go to school, and dealing with my own ugly bloody break up drama. I'm glad you're just happy go lucky and don't know this kind of stuff goes on.

But, I guess its not all bad, I got into school, so hopefully someday if everything goes right (and I can handle the math, fingers crossed) I'll be a veterinarian. :) All my friends are telling me I'll be a great vet, but they might just be saying that to be nice, BOL! But after all the drama its nice to hear anyway. I'm super excited to be starting, but that just means I'll have to get creative so I can manage to have enough time for you, school, work, and studying. I'll make it work, I always do. :)

Though it never ceases to amaze me that through all the life changes and drama and heartache there seems to be only one constant, my little pup. No matter how you're feeling, or I'm feeling, even in the days when you were hurt and in so much pain, you always woke up to snuggle next to my face and wake me up with puppy kisses and cuddles. And just for that I owe you everything.

Love, Mommy
