Quick Bio:

Birthday:
July 8th 1996

Likes:
Food. Did I mention food??!! Oh yeah, I almost forgot - FOOD.

Pet-Peeves:
NO FOOD, when the garbage can is moved out of his reach, sleeping anywhere but in bed with you.

Favorite Toy:
He doesn't have ANY interest in dog toys. Unless they are EDIBLE.

Favorite Food:
His faves are animal crackers, dog treats, jerky, kibble, cookies, crumbs, canned dog food, dry dog food, chicken, cheese, hot dogs, hot dog wrappers, any other food wrappers, plus anything that even remotely smells like food. That's a start.

Favorite Walk:
Anywhere his people are going, but especially INTO THE KITCHEN.

Best Tricks:
Managing to remain "Aussie cool" and nonchalant - even with a long, bushy tail ("Dude, I KNOW you're not makin' fun of my tail...")

Arrival Story:
I was at an agility trial with my other aussie, and saw a flyer asking for a home for a much-loved, older aussie. We called and found out Mickey was originally adopted from a shelter when he was a one-year-old (that explains his love of food, and that long, bushy tail!). Once they got him home, he was a bundle of aussie energy, and was enrolled in obedience classes. Now, he is a well-behaved guy, and thanks to those classes, his original mom now teaches agility and obedience. Mickey did not get along with the adolescent male pup in their house, so it was decided that a new home would be safest and best. We are the lucky ones to have the honor of loving and caring for Mickey!!! (a BIG thank you to K & K)

Bio:
Mickey Finn CDX, AX, AXJ, OAP, NJP, RL1, CGC ..........We adopted Mickey late December 2004, when he was 8 1/2 years old. He has fit in great with our family, though to my knowledge he has never lived with kids (we have two), or a female dog (we have one). He had been a stray, and in and out of the shelter a few times, before his previous owners adopted him. Right from the start, he was not bothered by the change of residence at all. As long as there is FOOD, he is a happy boy! He and Kimmi do have their disagreements. She wants things done her way, he blows her off. He must have been through enough in his life not to be bothered by some youngster!..........Mickey has earned several agility titles in preferred (lower standards for older dogs) classes with me. He is certainly not fast anymore, but still accurate. Some days he's on, other days he would rather nap. He still loves being AT the trials, around all the new dogs and smells. At one trial he got loose, and was found sitting by the food stand waiting his turn! He may be slow, but I enjoy just be out with him at the trials. Afterall, he has earned the right to slack off !.......... We have also done Rally Obedience, which is a gentle way for him to still use his Obedience skills..........Two months after arriving at our house, Mickey earned his CGC! It took lots of work on allowing a stranger to brush and handle him. Not such an easy task.......... I would like to be competitive for as long as he is able, but he is most importantly a member of our family. Soon enough it will be time to officially retire him, though we will still practice at home to exercise his mind and body. We will make sure this is the last home he needs to have!!! Mickey left us in March of 2007. We miss you, Mic!

November 7, 2005 - PRETTY MUCH BACK TO NORMAL

Well, my eye is all healed, and the fur is almost grown back, so you really can't tell anything was wrong.

But....all that time off, and babying by my family, has resulted in a teeny-tiny weight gain. That, and my summer haircut is growing in nice and thick, so I am back to looking like a shaggy bear!

Mom doesn't mind, though, because it helps me keep her feet toasty warm when I lay across the bottom of the bed!

Go to go - M.

September 2, 2005 - I CAN SEE!

My eye is much better today. The swelling is almost all gone, and I can open my eye 3/4 of the way. I never mentioned that it is my brown eye on my right that got hurt.

I got to go for a nice walk outside, and got to lay down in the grass while Mom worked in the yard. That felt sooo good!

I am staying in the kitchen for now, during the recovery, since I am not too good at navigating with my e-collar on. Kimmi is staying in a different room, so I am not stressed out, and have lots of room to move around!

I will keep you posted. - M.

September 24, 2005 - FELLING SLIGHTLY BETTER

Well, I still feel a bit out of it, but the swelling is starting to go down and I can at least open my eye.

Kimmi has been moved out of my room while I recover, so I have the place all to myself!

I have to wear this funny red plastic cone over my head, and even though it isn't that wide, it gives me trouble navigating around the house.

Mom has to give me eyedrops three times a day, which I HATE. Dad hold a treat up, and while I am looking that way, Mom squeezes drops until they hit my eye. That is the only way, since understandably I won't let anyone get near my eye.

With the fur shaved, it looks like I have a big white circle around one eye. Dad calls me "Petey". I'll check back in soon. - M
