Arrival Story:
Dublin was one of 8 puppies born to a Golden Retreiver in the Annapolis Valley. When the pups were ready to leave home, they were given to the SPCA, which held its 'pet day' at the mall, on St Patrick's Day. We were the 1st people to arrive wanting a female, so got first pick of the girls. Dublin was the only golden one of the girls, the rest were blonde. We took her up the hallway for a little test, and she seemed timid, but spunky. I knew she would be the one, but just to be sure, we then took her sister, a blondey, for a little walk...but she was far more scared. But as we returned to the pen to get Dublin, a man had lifted Dublin out and was walking away with her!! We politlely told him we hadn't chosen our dog yet. He muttered something like 'hmph, a dog is a dog'...Luckily, Dublin came home with us!

Dear Doggie Diary (love Dublin)

My name is Dublin, and I'm addicted to my treat ball...

I don't know how it happened, but I loved my orange treat ball soooo much (this is the hard plastic ball you put kibbles inside and I have to roll it around with my nose to get the treats to come out) my mom and dad had to do an intervention the other day, and take it away from me.

I became so addicted, I HAD to have my ball every morning after my breakfast. After I ate, I would go find my ball and THROW it at mom or dad's feet and wait until somebody would pay attention and put a couple of pieces of food inside. At first it was enough to have the ball treats once...but then I needed to do it again...and again...and again...but mom and dad said no, that was enough! Then they ignored me. So I learned that I had to BARK to get their attention!!

Then one day my mom said there would be no more treat ball if I barked. Apparently I was being too "demanding"...whatever that means.

So I tried really hard to follow their rules. But when I quietly dropped the ball in the kitchen every morning, mom and dad would not pay attention...so I HAD to bark and howl and squeal...I needed my FIX sooo badly!!!

Well, I guess I made mom and dad really angry, because two mornings ago, they removed my ball from the kitchen and put it in a cupboard, where I can't see it (although I know exactly where it is...do they think I'm stupid?). Mom said I will only be getting the treat ball on special occasions from now on, because I was misbehaving.

Then she said something like "You are not the BOSS around here you know!"

Coulda fooled me! ;-)

Happy Howlidays!

This Christmas my mom finally discovered my hidden talent..I like to sing! I may be off key, but when mom sings those high-pitched Christmas tunes...I just can't help myself! I sing along, just as loud and proud as I can. It's not easy though because I don't know all the words. So far my favourites are Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Jingle Bells, and Silent Night - that one must be a really funny song because whenever I sing it mom starts laughing and laughing. I don't get it.

Okay first I thought rocks were my favourite. Then snow. Then gardening.

Forget all that because I could swim FOR-EVER! My mom has been having a long vacation this summer so I get to swim in the ocean pretty much every day!! Does life get any better? I think not.

In fact I love to swim so much I have been tempted lately to jump out of the boat when Mom and Dad take me out for the day. They keep telling me to stay in the boat but it's hot and noisey and scary, and I don't like it.

So Mom decided to buy me some sort of bright orange jacket to wear when I go out in the boat. She says it is supposed to save me if I jump overboard in the middle of the Atlantic. But I just love it because it helps me float, and when I have it on I can swim even farther and longer! Check out my new swimming pics!

love,
Dublin
