Arrival Story:
After losing our sweet greyhound Gracie, I thought I wanted to get a smaller dog. I checked all the shelters and rescue sites but came away feeling discouraged because none of the dogs really called out to me. I finally realized that I was really hooked on the greyhounds so started looking for a "small" greyhound. One of my friends told me about Madison who was available from GreySave in Southern California. Her description sounded like she would be just the kind of dog I was looking for and I fell in love with her sweet face. It took a few e-mails, phone calls, intervention of supportive friends, and a phone interview before it was agreed that we could adopt her since we lived so far away. Her foster family has been terrific about letting us know all about her after they spent a couple of months bringing her out of her shell. They are now her extended family.

Bio:
Madison raced under the name "Bw's Madison." You can read more about her at http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i= 1441025. She came to GreySave in June 2009. She had an untreated broken leg and was extremely shy. Her foster family made sure that she received the medical care she needed. Since her broken bone had fused on its own and she was getting around OK, it was decided not to try and reset it. We are still watching that leg and giving it plenty of time to heal completely but she seems to be doing just greyt.

Madison Has Her Forever Home

Four Years Old

I celebrated my 4th birthday with Frosty Paws. Mom also made a home-made version for later. Jack and I really like it! I am still a shy girl, but at home I am so silly. I like to make my mom and dad laugh by jumping in their laps on the loveseat. I also jump up on their bed. It is more fun when they don't see me coming! Sometimes I get full of energy and have to run laps in the backyard. I run so hard that when I have to make a turn, the grass goes flying - roots, dirt, and all! Afterwards, I head for one of the doggie beds to think about what to do next. Life is good.

I have been in my home for one year now. Mom says that she loves me more than ever. Well, of course she does. Who can resist such a sweet girl! Mom and Dad keep bringing foster dogs home. I like some of them OK, but when they leave, I don't have to share my toys and beds - except with Jack. Still, it is fun having another dog to play with me for awhile.

Meet and Greet on Foot

Mom and Aunty Janet took me, George, and Misty Blue for a walk around Old Sacramento for a walking Meet and Greet. We even got to go shopping at Trail Mix, a really cool store with fun things for kids and dogs (trailmix.net). I saw trains, a horse-drawn carriage, people, the Sacramento River, and river boats. We also walked across the Tower Bridge to West Sacamento and back. I didn't like the noises down there and some of the sights, but Mom and Janet said that I was really good. Some people wanted to pet us, but I still don't like just anyone petting me yet. You should have seen Mom's and Janet's faces when I actually went up to one man they were talking with. I could tell he likes dogs. To my foster dad, we were not at river level here, but on levees, so no pictures of me in the water!

Today it is windy and wet. I don't like the sound of the wind in the trees so it is hard for mom to convince me to go out and potty. It is going to be a long week with rain and wind in the forecast.
