Arrival Story:
I am a volunteer at our local high kill animal control shelter. It's a new program and I want to be part of the efforts to become no kill. I went in to work on Wed. and saw a cute dog with a sign onhis crate. They didn't want anyone to take him out for a bath, play etc. I was told he had a broken leg and that was his last day to be held over for an owner to claim him. He looked at me and my herat melted. I felt so sorry for him because I knew he would very likely be put down. Nobody would want to adopt a dog that would likely need expensive medical care. I called the president of the rescue group I work with and asked if I could get him. I was told I could. I had to wait until Tuurs. after noon because he actualy had to be held the full 5 days. I took him straight to a vet Thurs. 7/30/09. Xrays show he has a fractured elbow. He has to be crated for 2-3 wks. The vet feels fairly confident he will heal and it will be OK. I was so relieved I started to cry. I had not slep much for worry and praying for him the night before. The prayers were answered. He is going to be OK. Sweet Dusty. Our rescue # 41. I have to carry hin in and out to potty and he can not walk on the right leg until it is well.

Bio:
I was told that a lady called and said there was a dog sitting on the end of her driveway holding his foot up. She thought he had been hit by a car. he had a cut ubder his right arm and bruses on his face and a sm one on his back. He needs a grooming pretty bad but I've seen worse. His nails were SO long. He was good for his bath and liked being brushed. We will take care of Dusty and find him a good home when he w=is well.

Dusty's big day!

Today Dusty was delivered to his new home. He now begins a life with a family that will love him until he goes to Rainbow Bridge. He was a special foster to me. I guess each one is special in some way. Dusty is just extra special. I love him very much and will miss him every day for a very long time. It has been my pleasure to help that sweet boy. To save him from death at the pound, to see him through his elbow healing, to spend time with him just enjoying life. Good luck Dusty. be a good boy and show your new family what it's like to be loved by such a wonderful dog.


I'm getting adopted!

Dad stayed home to watch football on TV today. Mom took me to Petsmart for adoption day. A real nice family came to look for a dog for their little girl. They have a big girl and a big boy too. They liked me. They took turns petting me and the boy and the dad held me. They are real nice. They said they like a calm dog. Bella said I should jump up and down when people come to look at me. She doesn't know anything. I was just MYSELF and they liked me for me. Mom says they filled the form out and Miss Amy will do a home visit and if all the papers are OK and the yard is safe for me, I get to go to the new home soon. Geeee a family of my very own. A family that will love me and hold me and love me. A family that will not let me run the streets and get hurt like my other family did. I sure hope everything checks out. I want to take turns sleeping in each one's bed. hehehe Oh and sleep on the couch with my new dad when TV is on too. Of course I want to sleep at my mom's feet when she is reading or doin somethin too. I'm going to have a good life. I am going to have a family that loves me just for me.

I went to Petsmart with mom, dad and Mandy. Mandy got a home! Some people came in and they wanted her to be their dog. Mom and dad said they were nice and they would bring Mandy to their house Monday. I don't know why I didn't get a home too. Mandy said she had to go twice before she got her home. That means next time I go I will get my furever home too. I'll be ready. I feel good. I got my neuter. OUCH! It's almost all well now. My leg is real good. The vet said I can go up for adoption. I'm happy. I'm ready to be the center of attention.
