Arrival Story: I was making a quick trip to Petco, in the snow before it became heavy. A young woman was entering the store at the same time as me, holding an adorable American Bulldog puppy. We got to talking and I told her that in the future , I would like to adopt one from a A. B. Rescue, as I was very fond of the breed. She asked me if I'd be interested in one of her puppies that she and her ex- husband had bred. I explained to her that I couldn't even consider one now, as I had an ailing, elder English Bulldog, Spike (see photo in album) at home. Besides the fact, I was unable to afford one. I was Very lucky , as Spike was given to me through a friend of a friend, that knew I had always dreamed of having an English Bulldog! Yes, dreams do come true! Spike, was my devoted, gentle, soul companion! The woman listened as I went on to explain the painful, sadness (that alot of us have experienced before) of trying to make the right decision about when it 's the time to let your elder, ailing long term best friend go. She told me her sad story of how it broke her heart because, she recently had to find homes for the mother and father of the A.B. pups. She also, now has to find homes for the pups quickly, as she had recently got divorced, was pregnant again with her 3rd child and in the process of moving and they do not allow pets. She informed me she had just stopped by Petco to buy a pet carrier for the puppies in the car . After we left the store, as I walked by her car, I couln't help but to notice her car packed with boxes, 2 little children and a box of pups. We said our goodbyes and after wiping the snow from my car, I sat with a tear in my eye , waiting for the windows to defrost. A minute later, as I was getting ready to drive away, I looked out my window to see the womans car next to mine now. She got out, I rolled my window down and she handed me a white puppy and said, " please take her , you need her more than me right now" . I again, reminded her of why I couldn't take a pup , she just handed me her card with her breeder name and phone # and said, " in case it doesn't work out." I sat there in shock . As she turned to leave she added, "good luck with her, we call her Princess!" laughed and drove away. Still in a state of confusion, I picked up the adorable pup and that's how our story began . Was it fate, a sign, an angel? I named her Snow Angel. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. It wasn't too much longer that the dreaded day had come, to let my adored, Spike go in peace. He knew I had someone now, to help me ease the pain of losing him. R.I.P. Spike I'll never forget you and you'll always have a special place in my heart!
Bio: She S no w Angel! (a little play on words) It wasn't long before I realized that , She's no Angel! BOL! She never slept , seriously, she had huge bags under her eyes to prove it (see photo for proof) ..so, did I ! She kept me awake all night! This was my first female dog (female would not have been my choice) and it was a constant battle about who was the Alpha of the house! We both flunked training class, the trainer's last words to me were "She's going to walk all over you!" He was right! I admit I spoiled her and was very inconsistent with training. I hate to admit that I actually considered (a couple times) possibly finding her another home with an experienced, male owner. I felt as though she was just too much for me to handle! I used to think she hated me and there were times, when I can honestly say, I felt the same way! BOL Angel, was not aggressive at all... she was actually too friendly, was very anxious and had a lot of energy! She was stubborn and still has selective hearing at times. She would not "Come" when she would get loose and would run all over the neighborhood! She would run into my neighbors houses and startle them! On walks in the peaceful, Breakheart Reservation she would disrupt folks picnicing and steal their food, just like ,Yogi Bear and interfere with people quietly fishing! She has a stomach that is indestructible...it must be made of iron! Warning... the following may not be appropriate for people with weak stomachs!...... She likes to eat nasty, smelly things ! During one of our walks she found a pair of woman's plus size underwear and gobbled them up before I could get them away from her! Luckily, she passed them a few days later... guess what?... they were in one piece! BOL She's eaten several dead animals such as a snapping turtle (crunch... crunch), a whole muskrat etc. while I am screaming hysterically each time! The more I try to get these things away from her, the faster she will swallow! Disgusting... sorry! BOL I only wish I had written a book before, "Marley and Me"! Now eight years later, I think she's finally, accepted me as the Alpha leader! Through it all (I know I've complained and joked about her but), I've never stopped loving my, Angel Cake and I can now say, I think she loves me too! (We grew on a each other!) BOL
