I have been in my foster home for about 18 months and it is my permanent home actually. You see I was rescued from the pound about to be euthanized. When my foster mom saw my picture she felt that old familiar tug on her heart that she gets when she sees a senior dog abandoned and left to die.
She begged the rescue to to let her get me which they agreed to. It turns out I had a inguinal hernia which caused the pound to list me as a boy.
When Mom went to pick me up she realized I was a she not a he and the medical care began. I am heartworm positive but, too sick to be treated, have mammary tumors and something called Beagle Pain Syndrome which causes me pain in my back. I take medications to keep me comfortable and Mom wakes up every day wondering if this will be our last together. I am cranky and I only let mostly mom pet me and only in certain spots. I pee in the house sometimes and I have even peed in the bed on mom. Mom makes me special food so I will eat regularly. Even my vet says I am lucky Mom found me because most people wouldn't go through all of things with me that we have been through. I have to be muzzled at the vet or I'll bite them ;)
But, guess what.....My Mom loves me with all her heart and wouldn't trade our time together for all the perfect pups in the world! I am a very loyal friend to my Mom and I follow her everywhere she goes. I sleep in the bed snuggled up to my Mom every night...she lifts me up because I can't jump anymore. I just hope that anyone who is kind enough to consider a senior dog for adoption will do so with an open heart. We just want and deserve a soft place to rest for the remainder of our lives.cloud 9 I am well over 10 years old and can you imagine a person being dumped at the pound when they are like 80 years old and left to die?
