Arrival Story:
I looked for a dog that would fit our family for several years to keep us company when our two senior dogs passed on. We wanted a smaller dog (under 30 lbs), with shorter hair and a calm temperament but active enough to keep up with our busy lifestyle. After volunteering for 18 months at the local SPCA, I dropped into the city pound and saw Jessie. She was a crazy little monkey but calmed down when out of the run. When I came back with hubby, she calmed even more. Hubby wasn't sure, but on the walk home through the forest, she kept looking up at him with her button eyes and he fell in love. The rest is history.

I have been working with her since we got her at 7 months to build her confidence. She was a scaredy little dog who hid her fears well. Very stiff and worried to the point of clamping down on her bladder sphincter for three days! Today, she is a confident little dog who has wormed her way into our hearts. She is no longer fearful of rain falling off the trees. She can be very cat-like and loves to cuddle. She has completed level 5 of Sue Ailby's Training Levels program, been to Rally-O and Flyball classes. We have also successfully worked through most of Leslie McDevitt's Control Unleashed program too! She is my demo dog to help me teach people how to train their own dogs assistance (service) tasks and is just starting freestyle (dancing with dogs). She has about 30 dog friends she sees in our local park on a regular basis. Some of them even stay at our house when their parents go away so she has learned to share her home willingly. Lucy has now joined our family. Jessie is one of the stars of two youtube channels that help other dog parents learn how to train their dog using positive reinforcement approach and a demo service dog.
