Arrival Story: Lokai was dumped in a shelter after being tied up outside day and night by his previous owners for 2 years. He had a wound around his neck from the chain and they chopped off his hair with scissors. That's how he got the nickname Poodlehead, he had a Poodle hair cut.
Lokai is a woolly coated Siberian Husky and his hair is now grown in and he is absolutley beautiful. Lokai was my foster boy for over a year and my husband surprised me by adopting him for me without my knowledge as my Christmas present. Best present anyone can give me is a warm fuzzy dog to love. Lokai, like many Siberian Huskies can jump the fence, so we are putting up a high fence to keep him safe. Siberians can run and run and they get lost if they get far away, they also have no fear of traffic and can easily get hit by a car. They have no homing device built in like some breeds. They end up in shelters as strays because as a breed they are not understood. People get them because they are so pretty, that is not a reason to get a dog, they are bred for a reason like all breeds are. You can never, in their entire life, trust a Siberian to walk off leash. It's not worth the risk of losing the dog to walk it off leash. Even old Siberians that have never left their owners side have been known to take off never to be seen again. I have heard this happen to many times. Trust is a deadly word for Sibe's. Retreivers are bred to bring things to you, Siberians are born to run.

Bio: Lokai lives in Philadelphia PA with his brothers, Sindari sadly Sindari crossed the Rainbow Bridge Aug 7th 2005, Yasha, Yuri and sister Quinn-cess.
