Arrival Story:
We had been wanting to get a dog for a really long time and finally went to the humane society. When we first went, they only had large dogs up for adoption. We love big dogs, but sadly do not have the space for one, so we couldn't get one (even though we wanted to adopt all of the dogs there!). A few weeks later, we went back and Kirby was there. Apparently, he had been found wandering around without tags. Because he was microchipped, they were able to find his owner, but she said she couldn't come up with $30 to claim him, so after a week or so, they put him up for adoption. I just can't imagine giving up this dog, even if I had to sell things or borrow money, I would get him back. He is such a great dog and is the cutest thing ever. We knew he was some sort of pug mix when we got him, but they weren't exactly sure what kind. We found out he was a pug/beagle mix (affectionately called a puggle) after we brought him home. We've had him now for 3 months (since September 2004).

Bio:
He got used to his new home very quickly, but is an extremely picky eater. He doesn't like eating out of his dog bowl and his eating habits show that he was probably living on table scraps. With much coaxing and trial and error, we've managed to get him to eat out of his bowl. He is super-picky about dog treat and will only eat about 1/2 of those offered, which surprizes people. He won't even touch anything with liver in it (I don't blame him). He loves all kids, all people and all dogs. We have two lizards at home and he is interested in them, but doesn't quite know what to think of them . Every once in a while, the two lizards are together and fight, Kirby runs over and barks at them, trying to be referee or something. He is *really* interested in cats, especially chasing them.
